Lovers and haters of both the snakes themselves and the people who kill or give a pass. I personally think that any outdoors people should learn the various species of snakes in the areas they live or recreate. Having said that it is not an easy thing to do if you live in the cities and aren't around them often. When I first moved rural back in 1994 I killed most snakes that crawled but after a while learned to ID them, got use to them and began to let the "good" ones go. I'm not a fan of snakes by any means but they do serve a purpose. On my old place we had corals and it's the first time I had ever seen them in the wild. I would kill them if I could catch up with them but they are fast little boogers and can get under the grass quickly. I won't fault anyone who kills them, their prerogative IMO but I do think if folks learn to ID them they would use the opportunity for educating as I liked to do when I lived out there.
Some photos I took of three of the species of venomous snakes. Never had cottonmouths though we had a pond.

At the entrance of my then garage.
