    Snake threads

Lovers and haters of both the snakes themselves and the people who kill or give a pass. I personally think that any outdoors people should learn the various species of snakes in the areas they live or recreate. Having said that it is not an easy thing to do if you live in the cities and aren't around them often. When I first moved rural back in 1994 I killed most snakes that crawled but after a while learned to ID them, got use to them and began to let the "good" ones go. I'm not a fan of snakes by any means but they do serve a purpose. On my old place we had corals and it's the first time I had ever seen them in the wild. I would kill them if I could catch up with them but they are fast little boogers and can get under the grass quickly. I won't fault anyone who kills them, their prerogative IMO but I do think if folks learn to ID them they would use the opportunity for educating as I liked to do when I lived out there.

Some photos I took of three of the species of venomous snakes. Never had cottonmouths though we had a pond.

You're not to blame. This is the new "hot topic" that seems to have replaced the "Yeti vs Brute" threads. It is now "Kill or not Kill". These will soon go away as well as people get tired of all the back and forths. I agree we should learn them and be aware of them, but what you choose to do with them are your own business and I for one will keep it to myself

No worries. I probably came across a bit harsh in your thread mainly due to the Speckled King being one of my favorites found in TX. My apologies and no harm meant on my end.

seems like this debate/topic comes up every year about this time. I wonder why that is....oh yeah spring/summer. I agree with what was said above about be educated about them and what you do with them is your business.

That's not the case at all, please do not feel this way.

It's mostly for the "only good snake is a dead snake" crowd.

What about the "if you kill a rat snake rats will overtake your house and eat your eyelids off"......crowd?
