The best is always home made, but Jacoby's in Melvin Tx is pretty darn good. It's about 20 miles west of Brady. They raise their own beef, their large CFs is so big they have to put the gravy under it on the plate or it will run all over the table. Home made seasoned fries. What I like though is go in for breakfast and you can get a small chicken fried steak, two eggs, hash browns and toast for like 6.99. Even better than their chicken fried steak is the jalapeño and cheese stuffed hamburger steak.

Where ever the best comes from, Texas Monthly won't know where. Several years ago they said the best CFS in the state was at the Hobo Depot in Liberty Hill. Their CFS were horrible, hardly any meat, all batter. When you tried to cut it the batter would all fall off. The gravy was like water and would only cover about a thrid of the steak. Horrible and Texas Monthy thought it was the best.
