Good eats are in the taste buds of the ingester. I would have a very time leaving North Main Bar-B-Que in Euless off any "Top Whatever" barbeque joints in Texas. That's my taste buds though. Too each his own. Certainly nothing wrong with this list.

Quick amendment: Substitute Angelo's for Cousin's in Fort Worth. For the atmosphere if nothing else.

For San Antonio, The Granary is excellent, but kinda frou-frou. The Rusty Bucket has the best pork loin, and ribs and their spicy sauce is to die for.

here's a handy map of all of the locations:

Map of Texas Monthly's Top 50 Barbecue joints in the World list, from their June 2013 issue. Top 50 marked with red pins, with score (out of 5) below. Asterisk (*) denotes joints that were also featured on the 2008 list Yellow pin joints are on the Honorable Mention list, with recommended dish listed in the notes. http://www.texasmonthly.com/eat-my-words/list-top-50-barbecue-joints http://www.tmbbq.com/more-of-the-best-barbecue-in-texas/

Some head scratchers for sure. Leon's in Galveston is pretty average at best. They left a couple great places in Austin off as well in Freedman's Bar and Micklethwait Craft Meats. I'm guessing there is a considerable step down from the Franklin's, La Barbeque and Mueller's of the world to the majority of the others on the list.

Many seem to think that Smitty's has had some consistency issues of late.

I see BOB's house fell from the top 50 after they discover he put salsa on his BBQ.
