This is an interesting thread and very informative. As an employer, I like to know what makes people want to look, want to move, want to stay, in regards to money. If someone can pay one of my people 20% more, then they're willing to overpay them and the employee should take it. I hope I pay folks what they're worth and treat them so that they WANT to work here.

I will consider changing jobs/careers in two more years when I become eligible for retirement. Will have to decide if I want to retire from education and get another job for the next few years and pull down two salaries, or stay in education a few more years and continue to build my retirement. Not sure what I will do.

I have an interview tomorrow within the same company I work for now. My supervisor now does not want to lose me so they are offering a bigger picture. Both jobs would have me moving. I am not sure what to expect in a salary increase and what is too much to ask for. Would 30% be to much to ask for?

If I had to do it all over again, I would not have re-enlisted back in 2007. Yes, I will be retiring in 6 years, but I could be 11 years further into the career I have always dreamed of, at a much younger age, actually get paid for overtime, and be in better health. So, to change careers, family is a big concern. Benefits are second. I'd rather make a little less doing something I love to do, than make money and hate doing it-call me crazy
