[QUOTE=bowhuntertex;7007684]I hear Keebler is looking for some new elves

      That's funny stuff right there...

25% is a pretty good bump, make sure you get a good sign on bonus and some stock too...

FYI, Oilfield jobs aren't going anywhere anytime soon, maybe moving around, but not gone for good. All the old farts are retiring...

If it was double what I make I might make a jump, but I have quit higher paying jobs to be closer to home when my kids were young. It's more about the comfort of being home to me, I don't aspire to be Trump kinda guy.

I was working for Extreme Engineering, it's a MWD/LWD company Schlumberger bought in 2008.

I've been in the oil and gas business for 15 years now. Early on in my career I set a limit of at least 15% bump in pay before considering a job change. That number has changed a bit due to my current position and the "financial hooks" my company has in me. If it weren't for those hooks (stock options and other deferred compensation), I would say 15-20% would be my goal assuming there were not other factors in play....

Considering my hard-earned position with this company, proximity to home and how much $$$ they've thrown at me over the last 15 years...double my pay and I'm yours! Otherwise, I just don't see myself going anywhere else or doing anything else.

I am going to retire at the end of this year from my current job (air traffic), as I would be forced out before another full year in any case.

There is an excellent chance that I will be doing something new by this time next year...or maybe not.

When thinking about career choices, money is always a concern...but it is not the end all. You have to also be able to tolerate what you do and as mentioned above, off time and bennies are a huge plus.

it would take at least 25% to get me to change jobs right now, but that would not be the deciding factor in the end.

I see you are in communications also. I work for VZW, where do you work if you don't mind me asking.

I'd move for 10%, no questions asked.

it's not gonna happen, so I'm good saying I would do it......

As an old diver friend once said, I was looking for a bar when I found this job.

Seriously though, I have been in the oil service industry for 18 years and it has always been good to me. It can be feast or famine, but that would depend on the stability of the company itself, your work ethic/reputation, and most importantly, luck of being in the right place at the right time.

I have a wife and two small boys, 3 and 4. I left my previous company after 14 years for a salary that matched what I was making previously, with 20 hours overtime a week. And less job responsibilities.

I personally don't see the oil field, in general, going anywhere for quite some time. Gasoline is a very small part of what oil is used for. Look around your house, almost everything has something to do with petroleum.

But, this worked for me and everyone on here has valid points on what to consider when what is best for you and your family.

I have changed about every 6 years since I was 15. Some kind of wierd tick I have.

My company is 24 years old and last year we completed the third serious flip. Hoping this is the last big one.

Some folks are career Army and others own 7 different small companies.
