Well I'm too excited to sleep. We're heading out around 6. Jessica seems to not be having any trouble sleeping I guess since she's snoring...anyways. To reiterate to the new guys coming out. Last year was my first year and here is what I learned. The house is very close to the hotels. Make sure you are legal eagle. You will be checked. The Mosquitos are pretty rough after dark so bring your spray. Don't forget sunscreen. Or water. It gets hotter than a witches u know what out in the flower field. Your 4 legged friend needs lots of water as well. Bring plenty of shells. Realize going in that the leggetts are some of the nicest folks you're gonna meet. And if you forget ANYTHING there's an academy 10 minutes down the road. You're gonna shoot a lot. You're gonna eat well. And the second you head home, you'll start counting the days till next year! Can't wait to see everyone! Y'all be safe traveling! Airborne out.

Took a roll out east yesterday afternoon and it's as Mark stated...I would guess the floodway flight gets rolling at around 3:00 & is rockin by 5:00. I think the rains just kinda stirred them up a bit as they are flying all over from every direction. The field was still a bit sticky, but should be OK by Sunday.
The 55 has birds to shoot & they tend to fly later around the 4:30 mark for some reason?? No where impressive as the floodway, but easy limits.
Safety:
~Eyeglass are a must for everyone on the field...I myself got dinked right on the cheek last year & no telling how far the shot traveled. Please keep them on.
~Drink lots of water boys and girls...watch your fellow hunters as we don't want any dehydration. It is going to be a blast, but hot and humid after these recent rains.
~Floodway Hunters: Watch sweeping folks walking / driving on tops of the floodway...this is the easiest way to tag someone. Same if you are up on the levee to retrieve a bird. Get up and off quick as you can as it's not the place you want to be.
~Tons of birds so avoid any doves flying eye level...get the ones up high & watch for kiddos out in the flowers. NO shooting any birds sitting on the flowers.
~For those with underage kids shooting with you who do not have a safety course permit...remember, you have to be within reasonable speaking distance. If they seperate to go get a bird, they need to leave the shotgun with you, otherwise the the game warden may think they are hunting on their own. This is the only citation I know of given last year.
~Check your plugs...3 shots only for you pump & auto shooters. 2 plugs needed for your ears.
See you later tonight!!
EDIT My contact: niner - fiver - six - three 3 zero - ten Fiftynine...will be helping Randall and Chris jumping from field to field to make sure WWA hunters are not getting encroached. Please ping someone if the GW shows up as we may need their assistance on one of the spots. My goal is to get there are 3ish unless Joe / cooks needs the pigs earlier, (not large maranos)Last edited by Artos; 08-31-2013, 08:34 AM.
