Sally just sent legdog a picture I took yesterday with my cell phone. This picture is the floodway block where there was an onion field a few weeks ago. Its transformation amazes me. Mother nature works wonders when she wants to...this field has never been irrigated so far. I think there was submoisture from the last irrigation of onions. The onion harvesting crew practically made a parking lot out of it. I ran the rows with a tri city rip and hill and then ran a pipe roller and the planter came right behind...that night we had a gentle rain. The 55 looks totally different since the whole field was planted. The salty part showed up because I was too stubborn to irrigate. Eventually I broke down and irrigated part of it. It has more flowers that ever before but isnt very appealing to the eye just yet but looks better everyday...the flowers are right on schedule and flights of whitewing already fly by at all hours of the day in the floodway. I dont why they wont let us hunt on Saturday but we will make the best of it. Maybe Corndog will sing for us

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I suspect the reason for the Sun/Mon opening weekend season has something to do with the fact that your hunting license runs out on Aug 31, thus out of staters and those who only hunt white wing would need to buy two separate hunting licenses. Still, I can't recall ever having a Sun/Mon season, not that there hasn't ever been one. If there has, I just don't remember it.

I do not recall one either??

Anyway, I'm not part of the dog clan & it's their playground, but there is a slow growing interest with valley hunters. I prefer & Hope that first of all the regulars & players of past wwa can find a way to make it happen and always fun to meet some new ones!! Long way here but this hunt rivals Mexico in the sheer qty of birds & neet to see even if you don't like to shoot.

I'll just keep following orders from the dogs & glad to be close to help...Saturday the 31st should be fun & the extra day is going to make for some free entertainment.

Marcos...are the 55 flowers behind and to time out better for the 2nd weekend, or the goofy dirt you told me it has?? I also bought 5 flats of shells and ready to shoot some grackles!!

I started spraying roundup on our farms best ever grain sorgum crop yesterday..so far over all the blackbirds havent been the problem they were last year...late planted sunflowers were a complete joke last year as redwinged blackbirds ate them completely. The 55 looks funny but has over twice as many acres planted. The stand is strong along the treeline and lower end..it should get covered up with birds too....we also have a field planted at the house

Year after year I think to myself that this would be neat to participate in.

Perhaps this year will be the year schedule permitting.

Its about time to break down and irrigate them.

It was my wife and I's first trip down last year. Alls we have talked about since is coming back. Ate like kings, hunted with extreme prejudice, slept like rocks and met some of the nicest folks I've ever had the pleasure to meet. I cannot WAIT to get back down there!

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 will not allow any migratory bird seasons to open prior to Sept. 1st. With the dates the Special WW Season allows (the first two complete weekends in Sept.) and with Labor Day that first Monday, they allow TPWD to begin the season on Sept. 1st that Sunday and include Monday, Labor Day with it being a holiday and the majority of individuals would have that day off.

Dove season has never opened in August and never will due to the treaty.

Carry on! Looking forward to this one if my schedule allows.
