    Is Everybody Working???

It's been a downward spiral for the past 2 to 3 years on finding employees that are qualified for jobs that I have. I used to run ads in the paper a few years back and would have to keep feeding my fax machine with fresh paper. I didn't have to run ads anywhere else except the local paper. These days I am throwing my ads out all over the place and I might get a 6 to 12 resumes for the entire week, if that!!

So y'all tell me, what's the deal? Either everybody is working or everybody is milking the heck out of un-employment.

Many "unemployed" folks have given up looking for work. They're just not looking anymore. Whether that means they're living on the gov't dime, or living with family, or simply living on the streets, i don't know. MANY "unskilled" and "skilled" folks moved "Back Home" They may or may not come back as the economy warms up. There is definitely a lack of people in the labor pool now.

I have sent out a ton of resumes and made a few interviews and been offered a ton of jobs selling insurance (not my cup of tea) and very seldom hear back from any of them. My age is probably what is keeping me from getting any further looks or replies. Be nice to be back in the real job market working and making money and not what I am making now.

Those that aren't working don't want to... j/k

Not real sure Johnny, I know that in my field (Drilling Rigs) if you are an electrical/technical person with a good work ethic you can just about write your own ticket, I get email offers and calls regularly from a resume I put online a few years ago.

Like mentioned above, its a lot easier to not have to set an alarm clock and take the free ride than to work for a living, especially if you are content on not having anything in life!

I don't think as many people take the paper anymore.

This was the chronicle and my ads are in the paper and on line. I haven't used The Chronicle for awhile...just a waste of money lately.
