          You are NEVER too old to learn the guitar! It is an amazing instrument, and one that you don't need to know music theory to play. I have been playing for 20 years now. I'm also about to start giving lessons as well (either in person or via Skype or google+). If anybody is interested in learning, pm me! I used to teach lessons to kids as well. I guarantee you will learn how to play!! And I believe acoustic is the best way to start learning. If you can learn the chords on an acoustic, after that playing an electric is a breeze. And playing on an acoustic builds up your finger strength, which is what you need. Also, the initial investment cost is much lower...no need for an amp or cables with an acoustic!
