My son lives there and his house was hit hard. His wife(Cristal) was on the interviews on all the TV channels. None of them even got out of there with shoes or really any clothes. Thank God him and his family are all alright. His house is in the area that is shut off. He has been out there helping out in nothing but flip-flops. He got word that there is a sign up for folks to be escorted to there houses maybe this weekend. Problem is there are no trailers around for people to use to pack stuff up on to get out of there houses. I am probably going to get a trailer and head down to help as soon as I get word from him. I am not sure of who to contact, but if you are inclined to help out, the offer of a trailer for some people to move there things would probably be a good thing.
Another note, for anyone thinking about ways to help; supplies have been coming in but I am told, in the areas closest to the blast, that the ammonia smell is going to ruin furniture and bedding. I am not sure where those without homes are going to stay but once they have a place, many will be needing beds, chairs, couches and such. Just something to think about if you have some stuff like that you are wanting to part with.
Yes I know him. He's a captain here. And I used to be a volunteer but now I'm a paid guy. I respect the volunteers. I just took it to a job instead of a hobby.
