    ants attacking my pecan tree

    what can i do save my tree

    #2
    Two ways I know will work ;
    1 - rub vaseline on the bark in a THICK stripe 6" wide around the tree as close to the ground as you can get. The ants will NOT cross it !
    2 - Mix an ounce of peppermint oil in a gallon of water and spray the base of the tree and the ground surrounding it.

      Are they the little crazy ants that run around all over the place?

          I would think that the ants are after what is really after your tree, most likely aphids or some other leaf eaters. The ants may actually be helping you out.

              Maybe carpenter ants? Need pics. There are baits for nearly all kinds of ants that will kill them.

                    If you see a line of them going to/from the trunk, and up/down the trunk, with one line carrying little green pieces, they are leaf cutter ants. Their is a bait called "Ant Block" that I use on my customers' yards that is effective, but takes multiple applications and reapplications. I buy it at the local Co-Op.

                          Leaf cutters have killed a couple trees at my place. We've put some sorta ash stuff from a pool place out and it helps some, but they come back after a while...

                            Check out a chemical called top choice. It's active is fipronil and is restricted but it will control your ants for up to 9-12 months depending on rain fall. Over and out used to have the same active but they changed it when they made fipronil restricted a couple years back. You would need to use something for a short term kill because it would take 30-40 days to take full effect.
