Is there some digging or construction going on around them? We had them often in our neighborhood for 4 or 5 years when they kept putting in more streets and digging trenches for new slabs every 5 minutes. Now that the neighborhood is almost full and the construction has slowed down, we haven't seen a rattlesnake in a while.

If there are that many small snakes around...then there has been a hatch-off close by. I thought I would play Captain Obvious thereAnyway there is a den close by. I might could plan a weekend trip and snoop around and take a looksee. I would hate to have a little one bit and I didn't do anything to help.

I killed a young one just over a foot long the other day and it was about 5 yards from my garage. I poured some rattlesnake stuff I got from the store around the outside of the garage and doors. The area around the house is very rocky.
I'm wondering how far do they travel when that small? Anyone have an idea? The wife is freaked out after I killed it with the weedeater. I just put that stuff out and put big sticks at every door so someone could whack one. I have game cams on the main gate to the house and I've seen about 2 or 3 tom cats roaming around...

I had the same problem at one point and had an older neighbor who turned me on to another solution. He told me that he took a fertilizer spray bottle and filled it with a boiled down minced garlic water solution. So, I followed advice and sprayed it all around the base of the house, stumps, deck ect. Within two days I didn't have a single snake anywhere around the house. I still continue to use it around my camper and have had no issues. Hope this helps!

Cat are about your best bet. I've heard that mothballs are a good deterrent but I've never tried them.
Take Snakehunter up on his offer or even advertise in the local paper or CL for a snake hunter to come out and look around. They won't be denned up anymore due to the warm weather but at least the den or dens could be located and hunted next year. I start looking around February some times January if it's been a mild winter.
