Need Advise from the Snake Experts

So here's the deal, about 5 years ago my sister and her husband and 3 kids bought a house on 10 acres between New Braunfels and Seguin. 3 years go by no big deal. Last year they killed 15 rattlesnakes in their yard which is about 1/2 acre. It started in late spring with the snakes being about 18" long, by the end of the summer they were around 24" long. These snakes were in their garage, flower bed, yard, door step, window seal etc... Their kids are older 13-17 and are aware of the snakes but this is effecting how they live around their yard. It has already started this year, killed the first one last week in the flower bed about 18" long. They are looking at all options, cats, guinnes, spray etc...., I think it will continue until they find the den, anyone got any thoughts or suggestions.

Snake fencing is expensive but may be well worth it with those kind of numbers hanging around.

The only problem I see with the snake fencing is that that soil is deep black clay, in the summer when it gets dry the cracks in the ground are wide and deep and I think would allow the snakes to pass undet the fence.

410 works great. If you can find the ammo. Get those rattlesnake nation guys that live down that way to come in.

They will not be able to find the den until next fall, snake fence over curbing would be the most effective IMO. Meanwhile someone needs to do a search of the area, look for a building or rock formation with south/southwest exposure they may be able to find momma or momma s before all the mating is finished.

I had a family member have the same problem with copperheads and they got some cats and it has definitely helped them. I also know of a gentlemen who had a bad rattlesnake problem and someone told him to get Spanish goats? I believe that's the breed. He said he hadn't seen a snake since.

Cats, and a snake eating snake are my suggestions. We have both, usually keep 3 or 4 cats on rotation depending on how fast the yote get them, at one point we had a 6+ foot bull snake hanging out around the house and we never found any snakes ever, compared to killing a couple every year with just the cats.

There's a den close by. I'd buy 24 speckled king snakes and release them around the house, one or two at a time every week. Show the neighbors what they look like and let them know why you're releasing them. Couple years you won't be able to find a rattle snake.

It took 2 years to build my house. In that two years we killed 38 rattle snakes. As with them they started out small and the size went up as time elapsed. We didn't see any for several years but have killed a few more but nothing like when we were building. We still have a lot of snakes but just not poisonous ones.

                            I don't know a solution.

You can also build a couple snake catches, 2' tall and 50' long barrier with 5 gal buckets buried to ground level. Run the barrier center to center on the buckets like this, O-----------O. Whack the rattle snakes and let the others go. If you go a vacation put a stick in the buckets so they can get out.
