    Lions and getting animals mounted.

First I understand 100% people wanting to kill mountain lions if you're a rancher. I also think this excuse is over used, sort of like I kill spikes to better the herd excuse. And I understand shooting them in the heat of the moment as it's exciting and you don't see them every day.

Aside from protecting farm animals why would you shoot one? Or would you shoot one? If you shot one in the heat of the moment would you feel bad?

Also, if you were hunting something else and a lion came by (which you were not hunting or even thinking about) and you shot it, would you still mount it?
I don't think I would since IMO it was not "hunted" only shot. IMO it's not the same as going out to specifically hunt a lion.

This sort of reminds me of people who buy mounts of game they did not shoot, which I never understood. IMO a mount should be something you're proud of.

I have a feeling of guilt over anything I shoot, it's just the way I am. It's hard to say what I would do. But, if I did shoot one I would definitely get it mounted. No if, ands, or buts.

I dont care for mounting or shooting anything not consumed. My grandpa would make me eat a sparrow if I shot it, nasty! The cost to mount is more than I would want to spend, a picture and memories do me fine. The sailfish in my avatar lived to see another day, I'll probably never catch another one in our gulf....but Ill never forget the way he spooled that reel and shook his head while jumping.

I'd shoot one in a minute. Mount it? Depends on if I had the funds but most likely yes. As far as it not being a target animal, who cares, if you went out planning to shoot an old barren whitetail doe and a 150" buck steps out you wouldnt shoot or mount it because you were "hunting" a doe? I highly doubt it.

I have some heads of deer I did not shoot. For em all for under $200 which is a helluva lot cheaper than getting one mounted. If I shot a big cat I would tan the hide myself and bleach the skull. No sense in spending and astronomical amount to get it mounted. I would still have memories and photos, but if I find a full cat mount for the right price...

              Pick one..
              its legal
              .i want to..
              Its a good trophy
              Not everyone has one
              Matches the furniture
Dont give a rats buttocks what someone elses idea of what hunting is or isnt or what they deem worthy of being mounted or not.

How many mule deer do you think it takes to sustain 1 lion per annum? 2500 lions per annum?

I shot a buck two seasons ago and just found him a month ago in the bottom of a creek. Do you think I should get him mounted?

Mountain lion, in a heart beat.

Something else that comes along while I'm hunting. That's just a bonus. Dang sure I would.

I've killed lots of things I did not head out in the woods to kill. That's part of what I love about hunting. The surprise. The MD in my avatar I didn't go out looking to kill a Mulie.... I was waiting for pigs to show up at the feed and instead this guy walked out. Did I pass him because I didn't leave camp and tell my buddies "hey I'm gonna go mule deer hunting".... Nope I dropped the hammer (after I checked tpwd site... It was the first day of mule deer season in my county... Lucky me) he will be on the wall as soon as he gets back from the taxi!

When I go hunting, I'm open to lots of targets

I don't want a wall full of lions, but I wouldn't mind shooting one or two in my life....same with any predator.

Every time you deer hunt you hope that buck walks out. You're still deer hunting so yes you would shoot it.

If you're driving your truck through a ranch, see a huge buck getting busy, drive right up and shoot it without getting out of the truck, would you be proud of it? Is that hunting?

Is it a high fence or low fence lion?

For the record I would shoot
