Thanks for all the help guys its greatly appreciated! What about shredding strips a week or so before the opener?

I shred strips a week or so before season starts. A couple of strips around the edges of field and then a few strips in the middle. Then slowly shred more lanes as season moves on, that way you have a stand of crop left for birds to feed on.

I roll mine. It lays it down for the birds but doesn't kill it. So if you get a rain on it it doesn't ruin the seed
