    Planting for dove?

I recently bought a lawn tractor and im constructed a disc now and was wanting to start planting food plots.(im very new to this) ive done some reading and i think ive missed the boat on planting for deer, plus its probably gonna be a minimum of 2 weeks before i can get out there. My question is what would be my best bet if im planting late april, early may to be ready by september 1st. Millet, sunflowers, sorghum, sesame, other? Any help/tips is greatly appreciated.

Mostly mourning, hunting in Robertson county. We've had good luck there the past couple of years, limits the first couple of days. Always looking for improvement though!

        Sunflowers or millet.

We used to plant a mixture of about 3-4 different varieties of millet. Thousands of birds of all varieties stayed in it all day long.

Millet if you're short on time. It seeds out the fastest.

You're not too late if you want some plots for deer. Actually wait til August to plant for them.

I'm confused. Not trying to accuse anyone of doing something wrong but what is the difference between planting a grain for the sole purpose of attracting dove and scattering seed. Are not both a form of baiting? To me that is just 2 different ways of placing seed in a field. One just takes a lot longer. I know you can hunt over a farm field that planted and manipulated for agricultural reasons and you can manipulate natural vegetation but how is it not baiting if you plant just for birds. Again not trying to accuse anyone of anything I just want to be enlightened. No matter how many times I read the Outdoor Annual it still doesn't seem clear to me

Millet comes up really easily. Sling some out with a spreader, then incorporate it with your disc. It does well without too much water as well. The plus is it grows quickly, but sometimes too quickly. Time it out well, once it gets so big it will start to "lay" down unless harvested.

As for fertilizer, depending on what has been growing out there, I wouldn't bother with it my first year. If you want, I would suggest something heavy in nitrogen.

You can plant from now till late July or August depending on what the year is looking like. It takes about 65 days to mature, so time it to work for you. I would plant 20-25 lbs per acre.

peredovik sunflowers, german foxtail millet and bird magnet sorghum. turner seed in breckenridge would have them.

Millet will be headed out in 60 days I plant mine so it heads out a week or two early so the birds can find it. I plant 30lbs to the acre and usually try to time planting the day before a rain. I'm in the south zone and usually try to plant first week of July. When it comes up I usually get a roller and roll some down to help the birds get to it.
