because the alcohol is cheap easy to find, you can keep it in your atv truck or camper, and it works without going to the dr and the sooner you treat the better it works and the less chance of rash to start with,,

Going to the doctor is the best thing--everything else is going to take longer or only relieve the itch temporarily. This past deer season I couldn't get rid of it. Turns out, I got it all over my hands when I moved my tree climber and was pulling down "dead" vines that turned out to be poison ivy. Not knowing I had come in contact with it because it was winter and there were no leaves that threw up warning signs, I suited up and went hunting. The oil from the poison ivy was transferred to the inside of my gloves.

Needless to say, I tried every one of the above-mentioned items but didn't know what actually worked because I kept lacing my hands with the oil every time I went hunting. This lasted for several weeks and I definitely learned my lesson and take what the doctor said to heart. When you even think you came in contact with it, immediately take a hot shower and scrub the heck out of any skin that may have been exposed. Second, make sure you wash all of your clothing that may have contacted it. I threw away the gloves just to be sure. The doctor told me that the oil can stay on clothing, tools, etc. (anything it contacts) for a very long time.

I get it bad, and believe it or not, swimming in a pool will get rid of it. I guess it's the chlorine.

There is a soap you can get at the pharmacy that will wash off reacting agents of poison ivy and sumac. It is mainly if you know you have been exposed and you are able to wash with it on the areas of exposure. If you already have it and you are in a bind you should probably go get a steroid shot in the "back side" like listed above. Remember that this stuff can stay on clothing (pant legs, shirt sleeves) and if you take on and pull off there is a chance of getting exposed that way. Good luck

I haven't ever gotten poison ivy but my brother just had to get downwind of it. I always laughed at them when it happened. My mom always used the bleach in bath water an it dried it up for them .
