FTF and give a letter for their files. I just left a s all company last month. Do it ASAP. Bad news (for them) doesn't get better with time. Good luck and Congrats on the new job!

When I gave mine a month ago I typed up my letter and set no firm date I let my current employer set it as they had been good to me for s
Almost eight years and I didn't want to leave any unfinished work for someone to pick up. I went in with the letter and verbally gave notice to my boss and we had a good conversation he said to take the letter back to my office and he would read it later.

I think verbal is the only way to go but have the letter prepared as a lot of companies want it for your personnel file.

If the shoe were on the other foot......... your employer would show you the door in a heart beat.

I never understood giving a two weeks notice. Do they normally give you a two weeks notice that they are gonna fire you or lay you off?

I gave my 9 month notice. If everything goes according to plan, 166 work days left.

Congrats on the new job. From the number of employees you mention it's going to be hard on your co-workers as the work load will be high. I imagine its been a mutually beneficial employee-employer relationship as you have been there 13 years. If so give a notice, if not leave ASAP.

                        It's a courtesy.

I manage a business that employees approx 20 people. If someone just up & quits, then it puts a burden on at least some of the ones that are left. I for one don't appreciate that. As far as the ones that get fired, they violated rules that they were very well aware of and put themselves in that position. Anyone that I have fired has almost always been given a second chance, and then screwed that one up.

Not trying to derail the OP's original question but one thing I've always wondered is: if you give written two weeks notice to your employer and they say "No thanks" and ask you to leave immediately does that count as being fired or did you quit?

Might look at your company handbook to see what it says.

maybe they will "fix the glitch".

                                go talk to the "bobs"

                                (reference to office space).
