Anybody find a decent remedy for joint pain? Messed up both my knees powerlifting in highschool ( not terrible but had both scoped) but really looking forward to doing insanity. Use a mat and good shoes? Ill probably try a variety of ways to save them from the pain and still get a good butt whoopin.

Tried it out and it sucks! You think you are half way in shape until you start the workouts then you truly know how out of shape you are! Do not try to keep up with the others unless you want to kill yourself! I started it and never finished it! Just dont have the time to do it right now but hope to start it again soon!

I would not do this insanity thing if I was you.
Random advice from stuff i've learned trying to get in shape/lose weight,
but take it with a grain of salt, i think different things work for different people, and I am no expert and I'm still not in great shape (or horrible), but I'm at least now making steady progress.
The number one thing holding me back from getting in better shape was not exercise at all, it was my diet. I've tried all kinds of training, never lost much weight, got a better core sure, more energy sure, but If i ever stopped for a month or so I'd slowly start putting on more weight.
So what is the one thing I've been trying recently that has been working?
/stretch/swim/jog/eat more fruits/vegs.
I don't do extreme workouts, I think that's just a way to get hurt, and once you get hurt your prob going to just gain weight. Maybe you won't, but I would, because i'd continue to eat horrible.
How i eat now:
I eat a solid breakfast (can't be missed, if you get up late thats fine, thats when your breakfast is), like 600 calories, in here I can eat meat, cheese, deer, pork... whatever i want really, up to 600 calories.
After that?
Fruits and Vegs, as much as I want. No meat, no milk.
also I throw in half a cup of beans, and a handful of unsalted nuts.
The vegs/beans give you plenty of protein. Get hungry? eat a fruit, eat some vegs. As much as you want...but don't eat anything but fruits and vegs.
Don't cheat with the nuts either its the easiest trap to fall into.
Anyway, thats how i do it, not an expert tho, but it is working.
The #1 thing is changing your diet, not torturing your body.

To loose weight, you have to burn more calories than you take in and take in the good fats as opposed to the bad. diet is a huge part of teh change to loose weight, but it will also take some sort of exercise to keep the weight off. Looks at all the diest that tell you try this or eat this and you will loose weight and they work, but it is very difficult to keep off unless you can stay with the diet change and add some exercise.

Video workouts are only as hard as you make them. I am in week 5 of p90x and I like it. I like that I don't have to think beyond pushing Play on the remote. I turn my brain most of the way off, do what I am told without injuring myself, and I get a good workout six days a week. I keep with the pros on the video, but I use them as a guide to say, " now work you ____ until you get an honest burn, then change to the next...etc." When they are done, you are done. Tomorrow is another day of the same fun.
My background: I was a 125lbs skinny Asian kid in Marine Infantry for five years. I know how to suffer in terms of physical workouts. I completed an Ironman self-trained.
Don't try to hang with the pros in the videos. Just do your best every day of the schedule. The advantage of the program (any program) is that it tells you what to do (you keep it within your limits) every day, hard vs easier, vs more flexibility, whatever. Work out per the schedule without hurting yourself, eat only food you cook, and you will lose fat and gain muscle.
The key is that if the video gets you doings some workout every day, it has paid for itself.
