My only other suggestion is to tire the pup before putting him in the crate... I have a one acre lot and my pup will chase me around it 6 or 7 times before he gets kenneled. I ride my mountain bike and as soon as he slacks of on the chasing its kennel time. I believe it has helped then again maybe my pup just got used to the crate & kennel...

My first dog was a really tough case. She had severe separation anxiety. It started with nuisance barking that would go on for hours. Then she tore a wire crate apart trying to get out and that wasn't the most expensive thing she ever destroyed....
I was afraid she was really going to injur herself tearing something up. I tried everything from conventional techniques to dog Xanax. Getting another dog was the one and only thing that ever helped. She is 7 now and still dreads going in a crate or being left anywhere. She goes in a crate on command but , boy does she sulk! Treats don't help, she refuses them.

The other two pups did great. Very easy to train and they grew attached to their crates.

Lacys are very pack oriented. Some are more independent than others and can handle the isolation. Some, it seems, cannot. Another dog will help as long as that dog is stable and doesn't have any problems of his own.

Thanks for the advice guys. Talked to keeps keeper on the phone, and she let me know what she did with him before we got him. Strong scolding. I'm not into the bark/shock collars

Just took him outside, put him to bed, and as soon as he started up, gave him my meanest no, bad dog, (takes a lot more than my standard firm no) and he quit. Started again in about 30 seconds, I came back and did it again. Haven't heard a peep from him since.

Might get my first night of quiet! Gonna take advantage. Good night!

Yes, I would never put a shock collar or bark collar on a puppy. My lab was 4 years old and just stubborn. I didn't like it either but I think it made things better for her in the long run.

Try covering the crate with a blanket or towel. The darkness soothes them

I scolded him into peeing tonight. Heck, my tone almost made my wife cry.

I don't think the scolding is going to work. He barked for a half hour tonight and finally got quiet. Completely ignored a raw hide dipped in peanut butter

Seems to me you just need to tell him to get in the crate and deal with it. 30 minutes is not bad. Just keep it up and don't reward him for whining.

Take a towel and wrap a windup clock inside it the kind that makes a loud TIC TOC sound and put it in the crate with him sometimes that will settle them down. Or pick up one of these.

                            Maybe he doesn't like crates.

Any reason he can't just roam free?

My dog is crate trained, but it's in storage now because we never use it. Just an idea.

                              The two things that work:
First, cover the crate with a sheet so he can't see what's going on.

When he cries, pop the crate a couple times and say "no". Repeat

If that doesn't work, dog trainers suggest opening the crate and hold the pup down until they calm themselves. This may take a few minutes because this position is a submissive position the dog doesn't like to be in. He will struggle and cry buy continue to hold the pup down until calm. Once calm, slowly release your hold and pet the pup. Shut crate door and re-cover with sheet. It only takes a couple times with this method to make the pup realize you are in charge.
