East because it is the only place I can afford and it's where I grew up hunting and live. REMEMBER THERE ARE NO DEER IN EAST TEXAS!!!

I'd say hill country (llano/san Saba) Can't beat the views and the amount of deer.

Started hunting around Mason. Lots of deer, amazing scenery and good BBQ. Then hunted around Ozona - lots of cactus, a few javelinas and a few deer. Then hunted around Shamrock - a few deer, lots of turkey. Then Canadian - a few deer, occasional turkey. Quanah - more deer than seeing in Canadian and lots of turkey. Never hunted in S. Texas.

For body size, I'll take the Panhandle. For quantity and overall experience, Hill Country. For combination of size and quantity, I'd go back to Quanah or thereabouts. The Hill Country around Mason is still the area I think of most fondly.

I have been very fortunate to have hunted all but the Panhandle for whitetails. I have to admit I love all of them. All different and special. Favorite used to be the sw brush country but the "social" issues have really put a damper on the hunting there IMHO. Besides my little piece of heaven my favorite is the King. Amazing place due to history, variety of game, amount of game, awesome corporate camps, great guides, some real characters, HUGE deer, quail trucks, Baffin or Laguna fishing in the off season, and lots of ground without a lot of hunting pressure. I thank God everyday for the chance to hunt several camps down there. Fact is it is just hard to beat our great state for some really good deer hunting.

At the very bottom of the Santa Gertrudas block just off the King Ranch. May not have the biggest deer but you never know what's going to come from that area.

That's a tuff one. Each place is special in it's own way. It also depends on what we're hunting. Had great hunts all over the state but nothing means as much to me as a mature East Texas whitetail. Anyone that has killed one with a bow know's exactly what a true trophy is.

                      So I say East!

                        The Texas Hill Country!

The Brush Country of South Texas is nice but, it doesn't have the views, doesn't have free range exotics and it doesn't have the cool little towns that have so much architectural history. Tin roof buildings, limestone walls and bordering yard fencing....pecan trees, peach trees......cool evenings etc. Wild turkey flocks...in the numbers in certain counties by the hundreds!

Each one of my wildlife shots shown here are free range, low fence scenes. I've added the other value of why I choose the Hill Country...it's a very special place and a region each one of us can honestly say, the entire family would enjoy, even if they didn't hunt!

As it is in South Texas...the Western Hill Country is a land where...you honestly don't know what is going to step out! Black bear, cougar, exotics mixed with turkey and whitetail....hate to even mention them here but....hogs are now part of the mainstay as well..extremely diverse now due to the feral animals but, many of them eat BETTER than whitetail and a "world-class" axis buck isn't something to sneeze at! Way tougher when they are free range to hunt with a bow than any whitetail....they look up into tree stands like wild turkey!

For those who don't live here......I bet each and everyone of you....it's tough tough tough to drive home if and when it's time to do so!

Some day I would like to hunt West Texas and Central Texas, but for now I'm gonna stick with south Texas baby! We have a ranch near Benavides Texas that we hunt. Are place has been in our family for years and we always have a good time when we are there. There's nothing like being in camp in the South Texas Monte with a good fire, cold beer and good friends.
