If people like you and I don't go, they'll be forced go to the local Home Depot and pick up a couple of these guys, they're willing to do what Americans will not.
Williamson county sends a constable at 2AM to serve a summons to court. If you do not appear before the judge they issue an arrest warrant. At least that is what they did to me.
It's OUR DUTY to go, whether we are selected to serve or not. Serving on the jury should be another priviledge of our free country.
Employers usually pay you your wages if you have to serve on Jury Duty. Alt least here, they do.
I served 6 months on a Federal Grand Jury, I will say that it was a neat experience. For a case to go before the federal grand jury its usually pretty good. I was desturbed by the number of Child ****agraphy and sexual abuse cases we heard. But I was also impressed with the creativity and the way the different agancies worked together to get sick bastages off the streets.
Just go and do it. There are a lot of idiots that end up deciding someone's fate, so go be the logical one and put 'em in jail if they need to go or let 'em go if they're innocent. This is America, moreover Texas! Go do the right thing.
I have been called about four times in 16 years, none lately. Take something to read. In San Antonio like I said before we have several different courts you may be called for. Can be an all day thing and them they let you go, or get selected to go before the attornies and then get let go, or get selected to sit on a jury and they cop a plea so you get let go. I have never sat on a jury through the trail. It is interesting how many folks have strong feelings about convicting someone else, or have some other reason they are not fit to be on the jury. I wonder how many of these folks would want a group of responsible folks on a jury instead of 11 folks who couldn't come up with an excuse????
I guess I just feel like its our civil duty to serve if we have been called. Most of the time you wont do anything more than waste half a day waiting to be dismissed but there are times you have to serve as the Jury.
I had to sit on a week long civil (custody battle) case and it was one of the harder things I have had to do. That is decide the well being of some very cute kids that have parents to immature to get along.
I got summonsed about two months ago and ended up getting dimissed because I would not consider the full range of punishment that they were offering. probation - 10 yrs. prison. Told them I would not consider probation for a drug related case and they told me I was free to leave.
I have been called 2 times. The second time I made the cut. We were lined up to go into court for the first time.
Then all the sudden they said we were all excused.
The defendant, (not to our knowledge) was walked by the jury (we had no idea either) and he took a plea from the DA at the last minute.
We found out afterwards that this a common practice for DA's when gang on gang crimes are tried. He was on trial for murdering a rival gang member.
I have never been called for duty, but have been on the stand many times. As a police officer it really hurts me to see that decent folks with brains won't go, or go and try to get out of jury duty. It is one of our rights under the constitution. If I were on trial I would want good folks to show up. Let me assure you that all the turds, non-English speakers, felons, retards, and the like show up for jury duty. I realize it is a pain, but we need you there. It really hurts when you put all that work into a case and then have some goobers on a jury pour you out. We need people with good common sense to be there and sit on the jury. It will be an eye opener, and an education for you at the least.
I missed my williamson county appearance due to a family issue. I called and was told all of the requested to show people were released and dont worry about it.
I wish I could have made it.
