Can anyone recommend a good place to take the wife and kids to the beach this summer in Texas? Sad but I am from Texas and never been to the beach here!

Glad everyone chimed in with the same place! The beaches are nice, it isn't too crowded usually, and it is less than an hour from Corpus if you want to drive down and spend the day.Comment

It depends on what you want. Port A is great if you want a cabin and drive on the beach. South Padre is nicer and cleaner with high rise luxury hotels on the beach. Most of the year it is just as nice as beaches in Florida. Those that say it isn't usually have never been. the sunsets over the bay are amazing.
As much as I love Port A, the nicest beach in the area is JP Luby. Very wide stretches of white sand that is better maintained by the City of Corpus. There is also a jetty that is great for fishing.Comment
