Port A is nice. I take my girls down there for a quick weekend get away. Rent a golf cart and drive around the island and relax.

South Padre is the closest thing we have to NICE beaches. It is way down south and you can tell the difference in the water. This is where we go for any extended beach vacation. Lots of touristy type things to do. There is also a schlitterbahn water park, bungee jumping, go kart track, horse back on the beach, pirate ship adventure cruise, and awesome local eating.

The first picture is my daughter in the water of Port Aransas. It was pretty nasty that day.

The second is the view from the pool at the La Quinta in South Padre. It is literally right on the beach.

Dolphins were swimming within 10-15 yards of us between the second and third sand bar. Cleanest stretch of beach I have set foot on in Texas. No glass, tar or jellies.

      It's Blue water as well...

Port A is my choice. I may be a little biased though I grew up on the coast down there. The JP luby beach is very nice and well maintained but I like to get away from the crowds and do my own thing with friends/family so I kick it in 4x4 and head down towards big shell. I like having the privacy of your own beach basically. Plus if you catch it right the fishing is phenomenal!

By the time you drive to Padre you can be on Orange Beach or in Destin with emerald water and crystal sand so we head east in the summer for our beach trips.

Galveston is cool but easily the last choice in Texas beaches. But I have had a ton of fun there. At the rigth time the water is as clear as anywhere in the USA from Port A south. South Padre is one of the five cleanest water beaches in the USA. From July through october the water is great in Port A as well.

Most of the year it is just as nice as beaches in Florida. Those that say it isn't usually have never been. the sunsets over the bay are amazing.

As much as I love Port A, the nicest beach in the area is JP Luby. Very wide stretches of white sand that is better maintained by the City of Corpus. There is also a jetty that is great for fishing.
I have to disagree with this. I grew up going to Texas beaches...after my first trip to Fort Walton I have never been back to a Texas Beach. It is not so much the white sand beaches of FL as it is the super clear water. In Texas if you go out 10 inches deep you can't see your feet....in FL you can go out 4 feet and see the hair on your toes...Since I live in north Texas the drive is fairly close to the same. I can make Fort Walton in about 11 hours.

Negative. That is nuts. LOL. can't see your feet in 10" of water? That's Galveston.

Camera phone picture, Port A last July.

2.5 hours from my house. I have the luxury of having a daughter that lives 2.5 miles from there. No, the water is not like this year round so don't go in January.

Galveston is nowhere near the best beach on texas coast but yall have to give it a little more credit. Ya theres the days when you cant see your feet in 10 inches of water but also plenty of days in june, july, and august that the water is so clear you cant catch a trout. They even spook from a silver spoon. SPI would be my choice of nicest beach though.
