I'd go South. 40" bigger deer would trump 3 more hours to drive. Missing the exotics would suck but it's South Texas, a dream for most. It also sounds like you're getting way more for your money, bigger deer and way more acreage. The family thing is going to hurt though. Maybe y'all can work out 200 acres in a corner where your family can hunt does or specific management deer.

IF......my family, kids wife, etc hunted with me and loved doing it....and IF I am reading this correctly that they can't hunt with you in South Texas, there is no way in hell I would leave my family at home for bigger deer.
I would feel selfish but that is just me..Last edited by Smart; 01-24-2013, 04:01 PM.

Thanks for all of the opinions. This is a tough call. As Coach W mentioned, having both is out of the picture when you double your protein and corn bill. On the Sonora lease, its my brother and dad who I hunt with, and my dad hasnt even hunted the last two years. The thought of not hunting with my brother bothers me. One thought I am working with dad right now, is he takes my spot in Sonora and I get on down south. Then we could both be guests at each ranch. Hope this is able to work out. If not, it will be hard to leave Sonora, especially since I let a nice 16 in blackbuck walk one more year.

A 6.5 hr drive gets real old real quick if trying to do weekend hunts. Something to think about, there are lots of places in south Texas that do not have big deer because they have been abused or the neighbors whack anything that walks. Not saying this place is that way but Ive heard the old "it aint been hunted in x years" line way too many times. Good luck with your decision but unless it is a bonafide big deer mecca, there is no way I would give up the place you have.

Don't get caught up in the big horns deal! If your killing prime deer in your area 5yrs on up! your skills as a trophy hunter is the same wether , your rack measures 120 or 220! I know guys who have 200 inch class bucks on their wall and couldn't hunt their way out of a wet paper bag.
