I saw an extremely experienced shotgunner do something similar one time. I was pulling 12 gauge class skeet at the Nationals when I was in high school...one of the guys apparently had a 28 gauge shell in his pouch along with his 12 gauge shells...(those guys usually shoot all classes). Like a lot of guys with over/unders he was loading without looking and slid the 28 gauge shell down the barrel...then when he looked down before he closed the breech and saw that there was only 1 shell in the gun he slid a 12 in behind it...blew the barrel off his pigeon grade Krieghoff and scared the hell out of his puller.

Actually, the current episode of Mythbusters deals with this exact e-mail. They showed the pictures and everything. They couldn't even get a damascus barrel to peel like that. If I remember right, they got some similar splits (but not the peeling) by welding a steel piece in the barrel. I need to check out the repeat on Discovery....If I didn't think my opinion was right, then it wouldn't be my opinion. So, any other opinion must be wrong, therefore stupid.

hey easy on the aggies.
But on a serious note. i wish i had the pictures of a similar incedent that happened with a bow.
A friend of my cousin was shooting target practice one day and for some reason when he released the arrow shattered. PArts of the carbon shot into his right arm. pretty bad stuff. the pieces of the arrow that were left looked kinda like the barrel on that gun.
