    Unofficial RamCat Broadhead Review

Every year my buddies and I get together like old times and hunt for a week. We make it a competition and test new products on deer and hogs. This year was the RamCat Broadhead.

Overall Score was a 4.5 out of 5 jalapenos

    Negatives:
Blade strength -- The .035 thickness is the same as a Muzzy or Slicktrick but the difference comes in the design. The RamCat blade is only connected to the ferrell at one point, due to the reverse cut. The blades never broke only bent. In my opinion this is not all a negative when it comes to penetration as long as they don't brake.

The hog was a 200lb boar shot at 10 yards quartered away. The broadhead broke the opposite leg. He went 20 yards and lights out. This was the only animal that I didn't have a pass through on. The pic of broadhead was in the hog.

    Positives:
Arrow Flight--Better than a field tip. Shoot it an you will see. The design on the tip pushes the air over and around the blades and fletchings. This allows the next positive.

    Arrow flight is super quite.

    Entree hole is massive

If you don't get a pass through which is not much the reverse cut will make a salad out the the insides.

I like the idea of replacing blade. I cant get them that sharp!

The two holes in the deer are from a rage and then a RamCat. RamCat on top

The trail pic is from a doe shot through the front shoulders. it barely bent the broadhead at the tips.

I switched to Smoke RamCats this year and have had good luck with them. One elk and one buck down... not too bad! They fly very true, I'm impressed.

Great review. I switched to RamCats this season as well.....it's the only bh in my quiver now.

I switched to Ramcats late last season. I only killed one doe with them as I've yet to make a bow kill this season. I hope to end that streak this weekend.

Here's pic of the doe I killed last year. She went 30 yards and nearly bled out on the way.

I agree with this review. I've shot 3 hogs with them and have come away very impressed with this head. Super Sharp and fly great.

On their DVD I just received there were tons of kills on large game and one mule deer shot at 92 or 98 yards (way too far for me) but perfect shot. The flight test are amazing via the design of the tip. Plus the fact that in all the testing I've seen where they challenge any other brand they win on flight and penetration against fixed and mechanicals. Truely a must try broadhead. If your dealer doesn't carry them, well he's not a dealer...nor good freind.

In my opinion, it will be hard to find a replaceable blade BH that will perform like the Ramcat.

Question - how are they pulling out of a target? Specifically a Rinehart 18-1 and a Woodland Buck 3D? The design looks like they would get stuck or be hard to pull out. Or do they have practice blades?

I've seen some guys on a Roku hunting channel use these and they look good. Most tests/reviews/videos wind up with bent blades. Flight, sharpness, and the holes these things make look good.

I pull the out of my block target with no issues. the blade bends backward and cuts coming back out, though I've never shot them into any McKenzie type target.
I hope to get them into a buck or doe later this afternoon and I know they'll work great. Here are some pics of some hogs taken with them.

I tried them for the first time and I was very impressed! They cut a massive hole and the flight was as true as I have ever seen. If I want to save the hide from a deer though, I use Slick Tricks so less hide is torn. Slick Tricks fly just as well.
I won't use anything but a RamCat on pigs from now on!

Turncoat !!! You need to to be shooting Tricks all the time.

My Son got a small buck Saturday night with a crossbow. Although we had just re-checked the scope a week before, somehow it was off. His bolt hit high and back. The deer was slightly quartering away. I'd say MAYBE it got the back of the off side lung.

The entrance looked like we had a welded triangle on the end of the bolt perpendicular to the deer.....a complete triangle cut with no flesh in the middle. At the shot the deer jumped and both of us saw about a cup of blood come flying out. The deer did a loop and then out and ran a total of maybe 80 yards and tumbled.

I've made much better bad shots on deer and never seen them again. This deer was down inside 15 seconds. Checked the scope the next morning to find out it was off.

I'm very impressed with this head.

I put a Ramcat THRU the spine a a big cull 7 point 2 weeks ago at our lease and it did not break or bend a blade. I was able to push the head out to where the ferrule was poking out the other side and pull it out with pliers due to the fact one blade was hung on the shoulder blade and still none of the blades were bent or broke. Not many heads can do that.
