TPMS for 08 Silverado LTZ question

I am about to replace my tires on my truck. Do I really need to have Discount Tire rebuild my Tire Pressure Management system sensor? I am not having any problems with the sensors now.

Easier to do it while they are off. Make sure they work properly when you leave and if they don't, return immediately! I had heck with discount over this on my wife's car when the new sensors they installed didn't work.

So I really need to have them re-built even though I do not have a problem with them?

Nope....they need to leave them alone and the sensors are part of your valve stem, has zero to do with your tires brother

So tell them to be very careful and if they break them they will have to replace them for free. Thanks guys.

            HI Dale.

They are just going to charge you for rebuilding them. They aren't going to do anything to them, except put them in your new rims if you are getting new rims. Just a easy way to make a few extra bucks. Kinda like the tire disposal fee they charge, when someone actually buys all there used tires.

im a mechanic at a Chevy dealership here in PA and do a lot of tires. The only time we replace a sensor is when your having a problem with that sensor. I definitely would not have anyone replace them unless your having a problem. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me.

Who needs a sensor to tell them their tire is flat. I understand if your driving down the hiway, you might be able to slow down in time if you notice the light is on... I hate mine! The little light in my gauge cluster has been on since the day I drove the truck off the lot. To hell with them!

Discount Tire salesman did his best to tell me that I would need to have them rebuilt. I explained to him the sensors work fine and I expect my sensors to work when I leave their store. Explained nicely that I will be checking before I leave the parking lot. In the event they are faulty they will repair them for free.

I will be watching the tech to make sure he understands not to break my sensors

If you pull the fuse, then you won't see the dash light for the faulty sensor. And you will get to go all old school and use your eyes and a tire pressure gauge to check them!

I have the tire gauge in the console already. The salesman even said their techs drop the tires all the time. I explained nicely again that the techs need to not drop my tires because the sensor could be damage and they will have to pay to replace them. Told him to be careful with my valve stems. I could tell he was getting frustrated with me that I was not buying it.
