I am not if favor of this. I am really not in favor of high school aged children getting to go off to places like South Padre unescorted. My 18 y/o stepson has been given permission by his dad to go. But since dad is out of country, I will be the one getting the phone call if he gets in a bind.

Or is Spring Break just for the teachers??

Give your s-son a camera and have him take some pictures.

I hope you will change your mind afterwards.

Another thing... if he is 18... he is either gonna be working or going to college soon... he can vote...

You might not have had a Spring Break in highschool but, I bet you had an Easter Break. It's the same thing.

Forget spring break, I wish my company would give summer break.

Best watch what i wish for cause they may just do that. Summer, fall winter and spring

Yea lets cancel Thanksgiving and Christmas break too. God forbid Christmas fall on a Saturday or Sunday and you dont even get a day.

Kids will be kids. If your stepson is 18 and hasnt gotten in a bind of some sort yet consider yourself lucky...Im sure he is a good kid.

                I am 47.
Old enough to vote, but not to drink.
Yes, high schoolers are people too, UNDERAGE people.
Yes I do have a child on the way and she will not go on a Spring Break unescorted. And it will most definitly not be to SPI.

Let's say your daughter is a senior in High School. She asks to go to Galveston for spring break. You say no and she deals with it.

Hopefully she will be going off to college in about 5 months or so after this "un-escorted week of debauchery".

Do you think in these 5 months she will mature that signifigantly or do you have plans to home college school her?

                    Keep us posted on that!!

It sounds as though you may resent your stepson for some reason.

I am with you on that one. No way will my daughters go on any of those un-escorted spring breaks either.
If I had boys it would be a different story though, course i would want to go with them. Yep, I have a huge double standard.

If you foster a trusting, responsibility-based relationship with your child early on, spreak break shouldn't be a problem.

If grades, trust, and irresponsible behavior are a problem, then spring break is still not an issue. Let them stay at home to think about it.

Amen, brother! Besides, if it weren't for spring break, we wouldn't have this:

Isn't this something we as Americans can all be proud of? Remember, they're all somebody's baby girl! But we can't blame anyone but the parents!
I agree with Chew. The training needs to start early.

I loved spring break when I was in school because I worked the whole time and saved up enough money to pay for fuel and expenses until the next break. The only bad thing was baseball practice and games were not on spring break. The coach used to give me hell 'cause I would show up to practice in boots, spurs, filthy clothes covered in cow crap. I always wanted to do the year-round school thing where you went for six weeks then had two weeks off. It would really help pay the bills.

I disagree with this to a certain point..

Don't get me wrong, it is up to the parents to bestow morals in their kids. But blaming the parents for what 18 year olds do while away from home is not right either. (to an extent)

I grew up in a Christian home with two God fearing parents who taught me right/wrong and consequences. Now did I remember that when I went to SPI? NOPE!!! Was it my parents fault?? NOPE!!! It was mine because I made a choice.

Not all kids that go off during spring break have had a free range in life. Some have had great upbringings and just make bad choices.

Wasn't spring break started so the school kids could help with the planting of crops? Just like daylight savings time was brought about so the farmers had more daylight to work in. Back when everyone used to work on the farms....school was second.
