Did a search on the Callaghan, and wanted to bump this to the top. Anybody on TBH currently hunting the Callaghan? If so I'd like to pick your brain!

I hunted Pasture 5, " Binkley pasture all but 3 years the Tx Shootout was there. " A lot of big deer in 5. I have also hunted Javelina a few times, Pasture 12, the Murry pasture. Didn't see many deer, most 130 . I also hunted the pasture on the West side of 35, BUMMER!

My understanding is they take a few upper end deer but mostly average 140type deer at 20k plus a spot.

It is cool driving around, booze cruising, exploring a huge acearge place like this. Also the access to the ranch is really nice and easy especially compared to some of the other big ranches down here. But personally i think i'd just take some of that lease money and cross the highway and shoot a 180+ each year on the somberito, instead of spending $100k to find one on the callaghan

Doesn’t get much better than the Somberito.
By the way Map, we did not get that big old six killed. He gave us the slip for most of the season, and when he finally showed up he was all broken up.
I guess the new owner of my ranch will be after him this yr.

I'm not big on the guided whitetail hunt deal.. If I do anything with the Carter's Country people it'll be the Cotton Mesa and shoot an elk. We have a group of guys who enjoy the whole experience that comes with having a lease. Plus we have kids we're trying to raise hunting together, and finding a good pasture that can accommodate that has proven to be very difficult to find the past few years. I'd really like to talk to someone who is actually on it that can give me some first hand knowledge. I've heard both great and not so great things about the place.
