    Inconsiderate selfish public hunters!!!!!

So, just thought I would share my duck hunt this morning.... was not what I expected. So I go with my cousin and our friend. I tell them that we need to get there by 4 am since the permits have quadrupled on this lake since last year. Low ajd hehold they decide lets get there at 5.... And wuat do you know. Someone at tue slough when I get there.

This was the most unruly pig heades jerk I uave ever come across. He sits in the entrance to the slough in his boat as I approach while his two crody partners scramble in with gear. Then asks me what my plan is???? Um lets see, I stayed up all night, drove to the area, paddled a 10 ft johnboat full of gear over half a mile, and have two other people walking the bank hunting with me. What the hell do you think my plan is????? Well he throws a fit!!! Tells me Im not hunting in there. I remind him that this is public hunting and tue slough is over 800 yrds long of flooded timber. Explain that by having a group at each end the ducks will be forces to stay up and not go sit where someone isnt at. Because after over 4 yrs of hunting his spot i think I have an idea how the birds work. He makes a snide remark and storms away in the dark. Well when he said first come first serve, I gave him the option of where he wanted knowing he would choose the wrong end. And he did of course. All and all we scratch a 3 man limit of half green heads and half gadwall. Was not an easy hunt. The place has been shot to chit in just a week. To make it worse, we have a boat come up when we are leaving the slough bc they just had to see what all the shooting was about.

Well when they saw the ducks they were like kids in a candy store cause they just found the new honey hole.... so, looks like a well kept secret has been revealed and one of my only spots i have to hunt and consistently shoot ducks is about to be done for. Sufh a shame since we usually always pull 4 man limits....

In all of this, my advice to any of you hunters that feel you have to one up the next guy or brag about how "good" youve done, learn to keep you danm mouth shut. Take a pic, show your hunting friends and tell them to take a hike when asked where u went. U would be surprised of the friends and family that you cant trust. I know i have been in the past. Your running mouth not only will screw you out of a great spot, but the very few other people that know about it and go out of their way to protect something so sacred!!!!

Sorry for long read and rant. But people need to learn to he less selfish hunters and keep details to them selves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Totally agree with you and would be just as upset about the guy being the way he was to you today, but, a serious question: "What would make it wrong if I scouted just as hard as the next guy and found that hole and I woke up at 3:00 am and got in it to hunt but when another hunter arrived I all of sudden have become a barney and a web surfer for a hot spot, etc. etc.. I have duck hunted for 20+ years and it cracks me up to hear this from people that are on public land that they have a secret hole? It's public and if there are real hunters out there that scout like I do and some I know it will be revealed sooner than later. I have found that if someone is there or tries to come in on me to ask them to join me or join our spreads and it could be a plus for both of us instead of someone sky busting 200-300 yards away. Those honey holes are like gold and you work your tail off to find them and keep them to yourselves, however, enjoy them while they last because someone else will find them sooner than later, after all it's public land! Sorry you had a bad morning but getting a limit didn't sound too bad.

Hope your BP is OK now . Get some rest brother . Sounds like you need it. Been there before, many times. I finally got tired of it all and just shrug it off any more. But I do know what your saying and went through. If someone is in an area that I plan to go to now, I always have a secondary option waiting. And just appreciate the fact that I got to get out for the day.

Theres no such thing as a secret spot on public land. If you shoot more than a couple ducks you can bet someone will be by to check it out pretty soon.

Yeah, I agree. I have hunted long enough to know how to set up around other people. I tried to explain how having two groups will be way better then one and how we would actually be helping eachother out. Even after him being dumb arse about it, i still didnt try to call birds that were working all the way down towards them. Im a courteous hunter. Like I said, I let him pick where he wanted to go and were far enough away that we couldn't even hardly hear them calling at ducks. Some people think that they are entitled. Hes lucky he didnt end up going for a swim this morning. But hey, its only going to get worse in there now.....

I still cant figure out how in the world an area by permit can hold at a low level for 4-5 yrs then explode almost over night... thats what I mean by people learning how to shut up!!!!!!

Its not that this was a secret spot so to speak. I get that holes can be found. Its one thing to go in a spot and see someone else has found it. And if its a small group or a guy going solo, I always ask to join up. No problem. Makes it nice to meet fellow hunters. But the way that its been soooo low key for so long and now seems like everyone that hunts goes straight to that spot.

I quit duck hunting because I was peppered in the back by a group of guys that walked in on top of me, acknowledged me, then as soon as the first teal came in shot directly at me. They were 30 yards away and that didn't bother me, it was public land what was I gunna do, but when they shot my direction knowing I was there it set me off. I gathered my decoys went over to them gave them a piece of my mind, threatened to call the GW, and left. I haven't duck hunted since.

They should make a reality show with y'all. Who is gonna get the duck barney that paddled the 10ft jon or that walked the bank. Ha ha, welcome to public duck hunting. Get you a lease if its too much trouble, we all know how its going to be. Its the way its always been. We used to protect our stuff around here when it was really good hunting. Send the out of towner's home all teary eyed.
