I'm sure violent video games for young people can contribute to problems in CERTAIN individuals. Constantly blasting away of folks all day online decentsitizes them to not look at murder as a big deal. Do I think you guys that grew up playing these games are gonna go out on a rampage? No. But I do think introducing these types of influences at a young age is a bad idea? Do you remember when you used to sit down and watch a karate movie? After it was over you'd get up and kick the crap out of your best friend. Then after watching it over and over you'd try and talk you parents into karate lessons.
So YES, these types of influences do contribute to your kids future. And in the case of a complete psycho sitting around all day playing them I'd say it can contribute to their illness and their lack of judgement.
If you decide to let your kids play these games all day so you can get some free time then that's your choice. Nothing will probably come of it. But if your child is a goth, dark personality, unsocialized child then according to recent events it can make a difference.
And yes. I'm speculating that this kid even played games. But I'm willing to go out on a limb and say he did.
I know I'll get flamed by the "gamers" but that's my 2 cents.

IMO I played them games when I was younger and play them sometimes now Im Older. I dont go around shooting people or schools or theaters or anything like that. I was LOVED by my parents and they taught me right from wrong. I choose to make my own choices, I'm not gonna blame someone else for it either. I don't believe it's the games I believe it's the lack of love and attention at home a kid desires and shouldn't have to ask for. I can't imagine what goes through someone's mind at the very moment that rage kicks into high gear.

People don't really understand the appeal of FPS games until they play them. For me... it's about hunting something with brain enough to be hunting me which is a huge kick.

Sounds to me like, this guy is the problem, not the games. If consoles didn't exist... he would have them watching TV while he did his thing... or join a roving neighborhood band of pre-teen hoodlums... perhaps have them drive around in a green van with a hippie, a hot chick, a guy wearing an ascot, a woman wearing knee socks and a strangely hungry talking dog solving crime...

Who knows what they would be doing? He obviously doesn't want to pay them attention. Games not being there wouldn't change that.
He is the problem and there're thousands just like him.

Now back to my first post on the thread...What are parents for? I haven't blamed games I have a console and the games I listed among others. They don't consume my time. Like the folks I'm talking about. I can't sit still that long unless I'm hunting real quarry.

So the same can be applied to guns it weapons in general. Guess we need to all get on public transportation too for the small percentage who drink and drive , parent your kids the way you see fit but I'll continue to play these games and guess what? You won't see me on a shooting spree.

Lastly, as has already been said, this kid was pure evil. You can't teach evil right from wrong. Video games didn't make him do it. He did it because deep in his core his soul is black and there's a special spot where he's at right now, and I can assure you it's not where his victims are at. Have a good day.
Austin Kade please tell me where in my post did I say that they needed to be banned. To put it in simpler terms for you all I said is that there is no need for the excess graphic violence in everything today. You can still have violence in everything I just feel that it wouldn't hurt to tone down how graphic everything is depicted anymore. I do enjoy the games and movies myself also but often wonder why the violence part of anything has to be so graphic in nature.

People always want to lay blame somewhere but sometimes you just have to realize that there are sorry people in this world. Always have been and always will be. If they dont shoot someone they will stab them. If they didnt play violent video games they would pull little dogs tails. It really sucks but it is the way it is.

Why is everybody always trying to come up with an illness or excuses for something. What ever happened to just being plain old crazy.

Stop blaming games. That's as stupid as blaming guns. There are sick people out there. Ready and willing to do evil. Maybe they should be raised and taught better
