I actually did see this one time, earlier this year. She flared out her lips and hissed at something, don't know what.

They do that a lot up here in Wisconsin. Almost like they're whistling. Usually when they're irritated, or have an idea something's up, and it's like a "contact" call, usually followed by a stand off, with a lot of foot stomping. Not spooked, but not happy.
Try hissing back one time, blowing air through your teeth, replicating the sound best you can. I've had more than one deer come in for a closer look, offering a better look, and a shot. Their curiousity can get the best of them sometimes.

On several occasions I have seen/heard bucks and doe making a hissing noise. I've heard them making the normal grunts, snort wheeze and all of that but I have never heard this before. It almost sounds like the sound a ****** off cat makes. You can see their lips part and they show their teeth when they make it!
Anybody else ever seen/heard this before?
