How do you safely keep a pistol near your front door?

Conceptually - I wanting a bio-metric single pistol gun safe hidden behind a hinged picture frame of some sort right near the front door. I've got 3 young kids in the house, so safety is extremely important.

I can't find anything that fits that request. Maybe I need to fabricate this myself?

How do others keep a pistol near the front door - make it quickly accessible - but safe around kids?

I don't think it's safe enough....probably best to wear a small concealed handgun on you around the house, tucked away and ready to go.

Safer and...it's with you all the time......if someone wants in....they aren't gonna typically go through the front door, more concerned about side windows and access points or areas where the public can't see from the street...easily.

Get one of these and mount it in the wall somehow. Quick easy access. And with the finger groves you can easily feel which numbers to press in the dark.

Thats kinda what I was thinking. A gun by the front door is pretty useless if I am in the house when they come through the door, because to get to it I have to approach them. I would much rather have one in each room of the house so if I need it, it is right there easily accessible.

But if I were to keep one by the front door I like the picture frame idea. Or get you one of those books with the hollow guts that keeps a pistol inside it. Or they make the cuckoo clocks with hidden chambers that you could hang by the front door.

also, raise your kids around them...teach them every aspect..take them out, set some water bottles up..let them shoot, they will learn the right way....and understand they are NOT toys...I raised 4 kids, and they would explain to the friends that, yes that is dad's gun in that case, no you can't touch it..then tell me or mom, that the friend was here and asked..we would show the kid, then put it up till the kid was gone...

only curious kids play with guns, teach them, and let them shoot. show then what the guns are capable of doing.

Keeping a gun out of kids reach is a must but one thing you must consider is showing your kids that gun, letting them know that it is not a toy and something that could be dangerous to play with, more accidents tend to happen when kids are not familiarized with guns, they see them with a little morbid fascination when we just tell them to stay away from guns.

Hes asking how to mount a safe by the door not if you think he should or not!

Im not a lot of help but I don't think it would be that hard to make something. You could combine that safe Ike has the picture of with something simple and cheap like this.

Otherwise just a regular wall safe would be my choice.

With children, a clock with an opening face will probably be the highest you can mount on a wall to keep out of little hands if that's what you want to do. If you have a closet door near the door, you could mount something like this inside it.

I don't know if this is of value, but I thought it was a great idea.

Is the possibility of you ever needing that gun high enough to warrant having a gun accessible to others??? I say no...
