    Storing meat question

I will be picking up my deer from the processor in the next couple of days. question is-how do yall keep it? do you just leave it in the white freezer wrap and freeze? how many use the foodsaver bags and is it a better idea?? thanks!!

My experience is the freezer paper the processor uses will normally store meat 6 months to 1 year. If you have ground meat and they use those plastic tubes, then the meat will usually last up to 2 years without getting freezer burnt.

I have never re-wrapped meat from the processor. Meat doesn't last a year in my house lol.

Yep...if you take out the air, it will last longer...that is what it is for. Butcher paper is good for the meat you will use within the next 4 months...if its going to be stored longer, always a good idea to vaccuum seal it.

                x2

I vacuum pack everything. only so many months a year I can hunt. Don't want to lose any of it to freezer burn cause I can't just go get more But, to be fair, I process all my own meat so I have to do one or the other

We wrap everything in freezer paper which is waxed on one side and I have opened 2 year old packages that were just fine. The only thing we vacuums seal is sausage. The biggest thing we do is store all our meat in a chest freezer that is not frost free. Frost free freezers work by pulling the moisture out of the air. This also pulls moisture out of your meat which causes freezer burn.
