How to silence a cable slide?

This cooler weather is causing some probs for me (and my cable slide). It has already cost me a shot at a big fat juicy doe (week ago). When the temp is below 40 my cable slide makes a pop...pop...pop...pop...popping sound as it comes back. It is actually jumping about a 1/2" at a time instead of sliding. Other than buying a "Mathews" w/the rollers what can I do to fix this? What would I put on the slide/guard to stop this?

Yesterday a.m. I took a practice draw on a 6 pt. Temp was in the 20's. The buck was @ 18 yds and spooked even though I pulled the string back as slowly as I ever have. He spooked to about 25 yds, and I still could have taken him. But... while I was at full draw, he turned and came back in to about 15 yds. I had to let down (slowly again) and the slide made the same popping noise coming down. He didn't spook, but it sucks pretty bad....

    Any advice/help would be appreciated..........

      I prefer the "Mathews" solution....lol...

I've head that a graphite based grease/powder will help that. I had the same problem on my SQ2 for about a month before I bought my Outback.

mineral oil and a qtip. will work wonders for a jumpy slide. also inspect the slide rod for unusual wear and suck. you might also want to replace it if it is plastic with a teflon slide.

I've heard nose grease will work if you figure this out when you're already on stand......

Cornstarch works good for me, heck it's natural to beat.

I have found that anything that you put on it attracts dirt. I would change it with a white teflon slide. I keep a spare in my tackle box. The black doesn't seem to be as quite as the white. Clean the cable bar with rubbing alcohol.

I use string wax. I have the white teflon guide and mine did it to when its cold.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna go w/cleaning the guard and replacing the old (plastic) slide w/the white teflon slide. I've used them before.

I thought about string wax but like Full Curl said.... looks like it would accumulate alot of dirt/dust. Some kind of carbon dust might work though.

I've been bowhunting all year. Took a doe and a 9 pt so far. If things don't pick up, I may have to chunk the bow and "extend my range" a little! I haven't rifle hunted in 4 years but sometimes "drastic circumstances" call for "drastic measures" !

                        I appreciate all the info...........

Silicone spray......it dries oderless and doesn't attract dust.

                              Yep good advice above.

No. 1 disassemble and clean your cable guide very well.
No. 2 get a teflon cable slide
No. 3 Silicon or teflon spray will spray wet but when dry will not attract dust, dirt, etc.
