How to silence an arrow rest?

I need help silencing my arrow rest. I have tried every thing. I use a TM Hunter. I have tried shrink tubing, felt, silcone on the arrow, waxing the arrow with paste wax, etc...... Need any and all sugestions. I can hear the arrow sliding on the rest when I draw and the deer jump and scatter out of range or get nervous and move off aor change position. I have tried drawing as slow as I possibly can. I shoot aluminun. Carbon arrows are a little quieter, but not much. HELP!!! Getting frustrated.

    Thanks.

I have heard of putting a little nail polish on the prongs where the arrow slides.

I shot a TM hunter for years. The best I believe is the shrink tubing. As it wears, you need to pull it up and re heat it. Do yourself a favor, go get a drop zone, money well spent.

Are your arrows of the rough variety?
If you are shooting cheaper red head carbons or older gold tips, good luck.

If your arrows are semi-smooth try using the arms off of a band-aid ( the mole skin flex style) to wrap around the arms of your rest. This will work for about a dozen arrows before a new layer needs to be applied.

          Trampus,

Have you tried using teflon tape? I use it on my Whisker Bisquit and it works perfect.

          Good Luck!

I have a TM hunter too. Are you a fingers shooter? That's really what they're designed for, but they work with a release too.
Anyway, I notice a lot more noise out of mine when I shoot a larger arrow (e.g. a 23xx vs 20xx). The shrink tube seems to wear pretty quick so you have to replace, or rotate or what ever. I was able to quiet it down for a few shots by putting string wax on it. I think some Teflon tubing like they put on flipper rests would work, but have no idea where to get it. Check your shrink tube to see if it already has a hole worn in it -- doesn't take long.
Also, if it was still making noise with the felt on the launcher arm, I'd say it might be the button making the noise. Look into that too! Maybe a little felt on both, but you'll have to re-tune. Might try the wax or nail polish first. Make sure to use a color that matches your accessories!
            Good luck!

You need to go to carbon arrows. I first shot old Gold Tips like DaveC said. Could not make them draw quietly. Changed to smoother, slicker arrows (Beemans). Much better. I think my next move will be to a drop away type rest. Good luck.

                I shoot 2115 aluminum XX75. I also shoot a release. I don't have a button.

TexbowJ, enlighten me more about the teflon tape. Not sure if I now what tape you are talking about. I shot a whisker bisquit last year but couldn't stand the noise. What is it, Where do you get it, and how do you apply it to rest or whisket bisquit?

Hunt NXS, How much is a drop zone rest?

                Thanks

velcro, I used it on a bowtech that I had a zero-effect on it. Absolute silence. (soft side)

Your set up will do just find, If you are realy worry about the noise, put the shrink tubing back and wax your arrow with any kind of car wax to make the surface of the shaft slick.and lube your shirnk tubing with some natural oil.run your finger on the side of your nose and rubb like there's no tomorrow and rub it on the shrink tubing to lube.now you have a quite TM Prong rest and a slick arrow. And yes this set up worked for me when I was using it. (It always work). Good luck to you.

I used to use those flex band-aids (cloth like) around prongs and they worked great.

duh - got the huntmaster 2000 confused with the TM hunter.

Teflon tape is the stuff you wrap around pipe threads to keep them from leaking. Any plumbing dept will have it. (Home Depot, etc) It sticks to itself by static cling.
Never thought about it, but should work nicely.

That is what I thought he was talking about ( teflon tape ), but never thought about using it for that. Will have to give it a try.

Thanks for all the help. I will try every single one tonight and find the one that works best on my set up. Hit a doe bad this weekend mainly because I was thinking about the sound and not what I should have been thinking about. Shot too quick and the result was not what I expected. Not sure where the arrow went in, but found some blood on the arrow and white hair. She jumped away and stood for several minutes with very little reaction. Found blood where she stood, but very little past that. Spent most of the day looking for her. First deer I have lost in a long, long time. I really feel bad about it and don't want it to happen again. I would rather miss than have that happen again.

Thanks for all your advise and suggestions. You guys and gals are the best!!!

Duct tape. No kidding, wrap a small piece around each finger of the release and it will be quiet as the arrow pulls across it. 1,000,001 uses for duct tape.
