Id also recommend you finds someone who knows hw and build your own. You can gather parts as your funds all ow it. In the end youll have your own custom built rifle.

I myself have owned Bushmaster "AK SHORTY",Rock River Tactical and currently have a High Standard out of Houston that a friend of mine duracoated for me as he does this as a business. FYI The Rock River with a 5x33 BDC was unbeliveable accurate and one of the finest rifles I ever owned. Of course all 3 are good shooters. The Bushy used to chase people away a couple benches cause the AK74 break was so loud on the end of the 14.5" barrel!

You will not build a rifle with quality parts any cheaper than you can buy a quality rifle. Plus then you have a frankengun that you will have trouble getting rid of if you ever need to.

Yes you can buy a bunch is cheap parts and you'll have a cheap rifle. I hope you like it and never want to get rid of it. Some poor Schmuck who doesn't know any better might buy it but anyone who knows ARs won't touch it with a 10' pole.

Just because "it goes bang when you pull the trigger" or "it's extremely accurate" doesn't make it a quality rifle.

Please go to M4Carbine.net and read and educate yourself before buying.

Building an AR can be done by anyone. Buy the parts and build it.

Check slickguns.com. You can get an DPMS Oracle for $619.99. A buddy of mine just ordered one. I have heard good things about that gun.

M4Carbine is a great resource - I forgot to list that one.

I'm not sure I understand how a rifle that is "extremely accurate" when you pull the trigger wouldn't be a "quality" rifle? Isn't that the POINT of a rifle? When you're hunting or protecting yourself, do you really care what the brand name is that's stamped on the parts if it does what you ask it to do?

You're absolutely right that I'll get more for my custom built LaRue than I will for my "frankenrifle" (built on mid-range parts), but you know which one gets to kill more predators? The Frankenrifle. It operates just (98%) as well as the LaRue inside 200yds and if I bang it up (which I do a lot) I don't care. Not to mention it's much lighter and more maneuverable. There's NO way I'd get rid of that one, but the LaRue.....? Maybe. I'm not knocking a name brand or high-end rifle and if you can afford to get one, that's great; but there's nothing wrong with a lot of inexpensive ARs and they'll 'do the trick' for most people in most cases. Only more extreme users will truly benefit from the improvement that comes with the high-end cost. It's really about what you plan on using it for and the usage it'll realistically see. People try to get their ARs ready as if they are taking them to war. If your just going to range for kicks no need for a $1000 AR platform. EOTechs, Comp 4, etc, useless for the most part unless you are adding NVG for night hunting then its just money spent for cool factor. Or if you are clearing rooms and doing Close quarters combat. A decent $600 platform with a 4x32 scope will work. I train students on M4/M16 daily and even our Colt ARs jam up at times.

Not sure. But I hear Walmart has lay way for guns.
