I back packed in a 1/2 mile & set up my climbing stand over a convergence of 8 lanes in a thicket. My fiancee & I had looked over a aerial map & narrowed down his general area after accidentally seeing him cross a road this morning. We thought he was using a general cut thru thickets & 2 oil well ponds. So at 2 I ventured out solo to find a tree close to the second pond when I found all these trails meeting in 1 intersection. I climbed up a pine 35 foot & waited. 30 minutes before dark I hear steps but see nothing. Then I see a fatass racoon come crawling out. I am happy to at least see a critter! Then 10 minutes later I hear the same racoon & at this point I hold up my binocs to find the racoon. Im looking & looking but cant find him. So I put down my binocs & look with my eyes down. And here is my buck stepping out of the thicket 35 foot directly underneath me. I wonder which buck this is & realize I've never aged/Id'ed one birdseye view but his horns are chocolate colored & he's wide for this area so I know it must be him. After 1/2 a second I quietly grab my Remington 7MM-08 & shoot. He walks 10 ft & falls underneath the tree I'm in. Im elated & on cloud ten & realize ****! I could have shot him with my bow. But when I picked this route I didn't know how tight & thickety it'd be. I didn't know where Ild be setting up and frankly I've been hunting/bow hunting for 4 years & I knew if God was gunna make me gifted enough to get him in front of me, I didn't want a lost deer or a missed opportunity. So who cares! My biggest buck to date is on the ground. I plotted & tracked him. I picked my set up & tree. He's homegrown on our own land 700 yards from my house & I'm sharing the moment with my fiancee, Hunter, who makes this all possible. Hell to the yizeah!

Gorgeous and a nice buck also.

I grew up hunting off Ariola Road (FM 421) back when dogs were legal. That was some wild country back then.

                        Congrats, Lady. Great buck.
