I only recently found out that tips are expected at Sonic. From talking to a friend with two daughters that worked for Sonic it sounds like most people do not tip. I asked a lot of friends this questions and almost all of them looked at me like I had lost my mind and said something to the effect that tipping at a fast food place was ridiculous. I try to use the drive through because I don't carry cash and there seems to be no way to tip when using a card. I once had a carhop ask for a $5 tip, with her hand open in front of me. I laughed, told her no, and drove off. I didn't go back to that Sonic because I figure she would rub my onion rings on the restroom floor after that. But for the most part, I don't go to Sonic because I don't agree with the idea of them being the most expensive fast food around and paying their employees the least. And as a general rule, I try to avoid fast food all together since it's like eating poison. Tasty, yummy, wonderful poison.

If Sonic doesn't pay their help much and expects me to help with that, fine. They should lower their prices since their labor cost is less.

I tip almost everytime. Usually around a buck or two.

Yes, I tip and it is for their service, has nothing to do with how much money I think they are making.

When prices of commodities go down, maybe that will happen. With higher prices now than 5 years ago food costs the same for us if not more, which means I haven't made any extra money on these "high" prices. They go up proportionately if not sometimes negatively compared to what we spend on it. And labor cost is not less. Compared to 5 years ago when min wage was 5.15, once again, the percentage I spend on labor and food is MORE, which means I make the same of not LESS

As a former restaurant employee I tip at all food services that allow.

My sister worked at Sonic. The one she worked at had a tip box that all carhops had to put their tips into, then everyone would share all the tips. She would get always get screwed out of her share by all the people who didn't receive anytips. So I do not tip at Sonic.
