You're right that may not always be the case but you are definitely wrong in your broad statement that all tracking dogs are expensive. Fact is some folks would have come out free of charge just to help him find his first deer.

Thats great i wish that was the case for everyone. You know i looked on the tracking dog list for the areas i hunt and most of the prices were $300, $100 on arrival and 100 on recovery, and some were that plus fuel. I dont know where this guy hunts, he asked for my opinion and i gave it. Most of the dog guys i know in south texas charge big amounts. i was just giving a general statement about the information i knew.

Any animal you have not found, yes even a doe, is worth every penny. Why try to kill it otherwise?

Maybe its time you find another dog service? Maybe train your own pup up like I did mine, if money is an issue. There is always the rifle
There is a reason why i said it wasnt worth bringing the dogs out. I dont know where this guy was hunting but here in S.Texas it was hotter than he!! outside. Most people shoot does for meat, from the time he shot the deer to the time the dogs would have got thier, that is if they can get their right away, in MY OPINION the meat would no longer be good, on top of that you still need time to find the deer, clean it, quater it out, and get it on ice. To me in that heat you dont have that amount of time.

That is another reason we didnt bring the dogs in on my buck, because we probably couldnt save the meat. but still put in a lot of effort to find the deer.

So your saying i should quit hunting due to the fact that most of the dogs in my area expensive??? oh wow that makes tons of sense. One day when im out of school with a good paying job i would love to have a couple of deer dogs, but right now i dont have the time to work with them and what not while im going to school.

I love bow hunting and hunting period. I still sit and hunt with a rifle eveyonce in awhile. i dont see anything wrong with that. I always saw the people on the green screen as one big family, we all have are own opinions, ways of doing things, but the greatest one of all is encouraging/ supporting one another. Although you sir telling me to put my bow down, pick up a rifle or give up hunting, and that i go around wounding animals, that doesnt make you sound like one those guys. Sorry im not on the bad***** level.

This post is in no way directed to any other TBHer. I have met tons of great people on the greenscreen. A couple of yall took my first post totally the wrong way, i was just giving my 2centsc like everyone else. I do once agian apologize for this rant, Its just i dont like to give up when someone is trying to shoot you down, i dont know how you would feel if some told you to give up with a bow or hunting period, But i was pretty PO'd.

D, if you would have read his first post you would have known exactly where he was hunting, so don't use that as an excuse

Wish I could have helped. I got a dog that's not even trained, she just likea to find things. Found my kids in the woods, a couple other dogs and some rabbits. I'd be willing to give it a shot anyways. Couldn't hurt.

Thanks for pointing that out, but still I looked up the weather for Waco and it was in the 80's and sunny. It's pretty warm in my opinion.

                  Hope you find her man.

I think what D_mcvay is sayin is that yes try to find your deer but if its hot like it has been and depending on how long it has been out there, the meat will spoil and its almost pointless to recover them. Please don't get me wrong I am all about finding what you shoot but there comes a point and time when it's not worth it anymore.

                  Good luck with the search!!!

Ok young buck, I just want to give you some advice from my experience on here. There's something such as this in your instance, that you should keep to yourself. I mean that is in don't expect to give an opinion that can be seen as negative by a wide spread of people and not get any criticism for it. Second off, and this is more directed to anyone I think. I saved my dog, she's a mutt but mainly rot weiler and pit, she was gave to me by a man that found a litter of pups that didn't want to take them to the pound for fear of them being put down because of the pit signs in them. She has one of the best noses I've ever seen. My shot her second pig a few weeks ago, and I took my dog out at night and tried to track it, I released her once we found the pig alive and she tried to attack it. She ran after the pig and went about 100 yards from us, then turned around, came back to me, started zig zagging and put me directly on the blood trail. The point I'm getting to, is you don't have to buy a "blood tracking" breed to track. Find a dog with a good nose. I spent $0.00 getting mine and she gets the job done. Also for the person I quoted, I'm 22 and a full time college student as well. I'm sure you go to a&m, well I go to unt. I'm sure you have over an hour drive to go home/hunting but I still have an hour. I train my dog every weekend when I come home to hunt (if we shoot something), so all that excuse of how you can't afford a dog and don't have time for it is a lie. If you can shoot everyday and practice, you have time to train a dog to blood trail. I don't know you, I guessed on the college thing because that's where most people on here go. I've been pounded on for saying something that wasn't correct to some folks and I learned you have to keep your mouth shut in a public place unless you want criticism. Just trying to help you out and steer you in the right direction.

I don't recall talking to anyone. I was hunting South Bosque, perhaps you talked to someone else?

we have never charged for finding or lookign for a deer. If you pay us some gas money then we are all good. We do it for the sport and for the experience. I would want someone to come to my aid so I pay if forward as much as we can. I dont knock those who charge at all. I am just saying. It dont hurt to ask and some will do it for free. And a doe is just as good as a buck.
