    Wow never fails

    OP:

plain and simple, you are traveling a route that is a heavy dope route for drug traffickers. I chased dope for a few years on the highway and just like chasing deer in the woods,,,dopers have pretty clever ways to avoid being caught.

The Questions you are getting asked are common and taught to officers working Criminal/Drug interdiction. I have been an officer for 15 years and I get stopped every time I roll to Laredo or that area to hunt. The “where are you coming from, where are you going and what is your business there” is a common and extremely effective quick gauge of not only your activity in those areas but your mental awareness. I answer the questions and let the officer do his job that keeps me safe and others. That doesn’t mean that they need to be rude or offensive by no means. I have never seized a dope load by being a jerk.

Heck, I have never had a drug courier argue with me either!,,,,they don’t want to arouse suspicion.

    For example:

:”Officer I’m coming from Chihuahua Mexico and traveling to Chicago to see my sister for a week or so” both are origin and destination locations for narcotic smugglers. This might be totally legit until I notice no luggage or clothing for the trip in the vehicle. Now this took about 20 seconds to ask the question and for the subject to answer. Next question…..Well sir, what is your sisters name? “uh well, you see, oh yea Samantha”….clue….next question…Sir I noticed that you have no luggage or clothing for your trip?. Long pause “well sir, I am going to buy all new clothes when I get there”. Then I see that the vehicle is 7 years old with brand new tags and an insurance card that was issued to the driver the day prior to his trip. The registration was issued two days prior…….

I think you get the point,,,something is up with fellow.

Now if you answer with reasonable and rational responses that make since then you’re on your way.

Criminals constantly change their tactics and watch the same videos that were posted earlier. They know the laws better than most cops and know how to work them.

The OP wanted to know why he was getting stopped so often down there,,,,well I would bet my next paycheck that this is the case.

As LEO’s we enforce the laws that are voted upon by the elected officials we all vote for. I personally am willing to be held up for 2 minutes to let a fellow LEO do his job in a professional manner and without vague or unwarranted threats.

OP this is just my opinion of what ya are experiencing when you are traveling in south Texas. Hope it helps a bit.

      .
I understand you're point. Make it nice and easy and everyone is happy. But in the U.S.A you also have the right to choose not to answer - and still be on your way. And the exercise of one's rights is not, in itself, a cause for suspicion.
