I don't know why you draw so much attention, must be in a vehicle that they like. The questions you face are criminal interdiction 101. You must be an alright guy since you're on your way fairly quickly.
As for the gun, I agree that you are covered and doing nothing wrong. Fal cop was wrong.

You are correct, in that a CHL is not needed. I believe it has to do with traveling through a couple of counties or something but it is hard to proof.

(A) engaged in criminal activity, other than a Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic or boating;
(B) prohibited by law from possessing a firearm; or
(C) a member of a criminal street gang, as defined by Section 71.01.

Honestly you're a lot nicer then me to police when they are fishing. You don't have to answer any of their questions about where and why you're going through there. It's honestly none of their business. Seems like more and more police officers need to be reminded folks have rights.
I went on a ride along with my brother. I was very impressed with how proffesional he was and aware of a persons rights. I told him he should apply down here! We need more like him.
