how far can a skunk spray

Got a skunk next to my ladder and need it to leave so I can go to work. Don't want to throw anything at him if I'm in range. I'm 15 feet directly above him.

Here's the hunting thread about it.

If he spays my direction and I'm 15 feet away will I smell like it? I can see everyone at my office loving that smell!

I've got a couple of beautiful skunks at my feeders. Real long fur and lots of white. Would love to skin one but afraid of shootin one of them and being up wind 20 yds and spraying...
Probably wouldn't be let in camp...

About 12" further than the dog is from it. Always

Shoot it. Bend at the waist.

The skunks you are seeing are probably Hog Nosed skunks. They used to be protected.

If it sprays and you can smell it, your cloths/skin will absorb it.
I've never shot a skunk with my bow because I don't want to 'ruin' an arrow. But in shooting them with guns, I've about 50-50 experience on killing them without their 'sprayer mechanism' going off and killing them with a last puff of smell emission.

take your clothes off and throw them down on it, drive home in your skivies, it'll make great cover scent for your next hunt

Wind speed? Temperature? Humidity? Is he in a vaccume? Too many variables to accurately give a quantifiable distance.
