    arrow fletching issues... questions

i have an older E-Z fletch tool. not sure what I am doing wrong. using gorilla super glue.

I am fletching a few arras. The glue seems to run towards the nock and a few of the fletch's have come loose.. like it hasn't cured.

Maybe I have too much glue on them. I used just enough to cover the base.

I have always set the tool vertical after the glue is applied and the collar set...should it be horizontal?

Also... I think my jig is "crudded" up. I haven't done a good job over the years to clean the jig after each use and I think the fletching is getting stuck as I remove the jig rails.

can the jig be cleaned of old glue junk ? what would be a good cleaner... would goof off work?

What glue are you folks using?

May be time to buy a new fletcher. I got Cabela bucks

You can use acetone to clean it and a razor blade. Put only like 4 dots on vanes and spread out.

Thoroughly clean jig with acetone. Then rub bow wax on jig where fletchings rest. This will prevent glue build up in the jig.

I clean arrows with acetone and allow to dry. If wrapping arrows, wipe wraps as well. I like fast fletch or super glue gel. Never have liked gorilla glue or goat tuff.

that is one thing I have been bad about is not cleaning arrows with acetone first.

interesting about the bow wax. I was not a fan of goat tuff either.

          thanx,

Yep I would say too much glue. When you think you have just enough to stick them, cut that amount in half. It takes very little and the EZ fletch will tell on you quick if you are using to much

Use Loc Tite Super glue gel. It won't run.

Try using easton glue very good stuff I shoot 4" fetchings and haven't lost one yet. I lightly sand the shaft where the fetching will go with 2000 grit sandpaper then clean with acetone, let dry then apply thin line of glue and let sit 1 minute before moving on to the next one. I believe in that glue 100% ive even shot an arrow through my target and still didn't lose a fletching. Hope you can get it solved though.

How difficult is it to remove fletchings and clean shaft when u sand the shaft?

Acetone has oils in it, why on earth would you use acetone to clean a shaft prior to putting glue on the vane? Please, disregard what has been said and use denatured alcohol. It also helps to remove the mil finish from the arrow where the vanes are to be glued using fine sandpaper. You also don't need to use super glues or other adhesives like that. If the proper prep is done any conventional fletching glue will be fine. When gluing remember less is sometimes more.

I use the same fletcher and I have always use goat tuff high performance. Also I hang my fletcher upside down from the hook on the bottom. The best way I have found so far.
