It happens bro. Way better to have a full miss than wound him.
Here's a couple of tips to put odds in your favor:
1) When they come in (especially to corn) give them a few min to relax. Watch their body language. Tail flips and ear twitches are signs of them being calm. If they're all keyed up they're more likely to duck.
2) Try and wait until they're away from other deer when at the food source. Having another deer in their comfort zone will have them keyed up.
3) Aim for the pocket. That's basically their arm pit and the bottom of their heart. If they don't duck they're dead. If they do duck you hit lungs.
