i should have mentioned. Mine is an f150. It has 155,000 miles. I got it about 70,000 and had it 6 years. Took excellent care of it. It has the 4.6 liter V8. I noticed it had been using more oil this year about a quart between oil changes.

Never used a drop before. Just changed it a couple weeks ago and it has used 1 1/2 qt. already. Last week it blew a plug out of the engine. Found out they do that alot till 07. Looked it up. Cost 750. Got it back and now the engine has a vibration that wasnt there before. I never had any trouble before but i am done with it. The engine is on the downward spiral and I am not going to own it when it happens.

Oil issue may be a PCV valve.

Get you a 7.3. Proved record, a couple 1,000,000 trucks still on the road today. I have 160k on mine and I just replaced the batteries. Other than that and a transmission soon, it runs perfect and will last forever.

Preventative maintenance is everything. No reason you can't make any truck last 300k+ gas or diesel if you take great care of it.

Got a 2000 F250 with over 250k miles on it. It has the V10 (gas) in it and is still as strong as it was the day I drove it. No leaks, but starting to burn 1-2 quarts of oil every 3-5k miles depending if I'm pulling a trailer or not.

Changed the plugs at 100k and 200k, u-joints recently, and AC about 5 years ago. Other than that, I do oil changes about every 5000-7500 miles. Nothing else done to it. It does eat through front brakes (or maybe that's my driving pattern). Front seat where my fat *** slides in/out is starting to wear out. Will be getting seat covers soon. Still the exact same if not better fuel mileage. Years ago the low fuel light would come on around 275miles and you had to fill up at 300. Today the light kicked on at 295 and I filled up at 315. But I did a little more highway driving on it this last tank than normal. Although that highway mileage was at 80 mph!

Find a truck that you like. I had a '00 Silverado 5.3L that had 265k miles on the clock when I sold it. Now I Drive a Dodge Hemi with 130k and about to buy a new Dodge Cummins. Get what you like and take care of it.
