2003 Dodge Dakota 4x4, 4.7 litre V8, RACK & PINION STEERING, on the fly 4x4 shift at speeds up to 55 mph.....my little goat has 240,000 miles, no oil leaks, no transmissions leaks, tons of power in a trailer package (3 radiators).
The older Dakota's 2000-2005 were designed and engineered by MERCEDES....including the 4.7 litre engine with ALUMINUM HEMI STYLE HEADS.
The only thing I've replaced, 1 water pump, 3 batteries, 4 sets of tires, 3 sets of plugs, 1 timing belt, 4 wheel disk brake rotors (once) and the upper radiator hose. In 9 years....and so many miles....she's been a good mid-sized truck! Handles like a car and still has tons of power! No fluid leaks...no cab noise (rattles)....still tight as a drum...I hate rattles, this truck is TIGHT!
I hate the newer Dakotas.....mine has the rounded fenders......6 lug rims\tires - not gonna replace her....I'll simply replace the engine and tranny when it's time. Not sure when that time will be but....I have a feeling I'll be replacing seats and headliner before I need to worry about engine and tranny.Last edited by AtTheWall; 09-23-2012, 10:23 AM.

got 160k on both a chevy and a ford.
plan to get well over 200k out of both of them. drive them reasonably, and maintain them often and they will all be good trucks (most of them). I wouldnt buy a new deisel.
and hell for that mater right now the only thing I would buy new would be a chevy. the half tons have the 5.3's that have been proven motors for well over 200k, or the 3/4 ton 6.0... also a good motor.
other than that I dont know that I would buy anything brand new unless I could afford a new truck every year or two (I cant). Ill stick to my 90's/early 2000 model trucks...

02 Ford F150 with the 4.6 and 222,??? all I have done is the tranny and 5 coil packs..been a good one...maint. is the key. Changed the tranny fluild every 30k and still lost it but all mechanical things wear out no matter how good you take care of them. Had a 93 Chevy before that one and sold it with 210,000 and was still going at 260K last I heard....but some just go together better at the factory than others...have known others with "lemons" always some issue but most mechanical failure are self inflicted. Change the belt every 50-75K easy and cheap, rad. fluid at 50K, tranny at 30K oil at 5-7K, hoses at 100K, rear end at 100K and keep it going....
