They should bring back hunting deer with dogs in east Texas. There were a lot of people upset when that went away. It was a tradition.

Exactly right. Then 5 years from now you look up and realize they're all gone. By then it's too late.

i wonder if they outlawed dogs in cali for the same reasons they did in texas?
No, they outlawed dogs in Cali because they said it's unethical treatment of dogs, and not sporting among other things. The real reason is they are just trying to get all hunting stopped and they are just picking at the corners on their way to getting all hunting stopped in Cali. Unlike Texas, Cali has millions of acres of public land and dogs can run for miles upon miles without ever running on private property.

Yeah but I bet they don't even come close to that quota next year as the majority of bear are killed using dogs. Most of the bears that are killed without dogs happens by chance when the person is out deer hunting and happens to run across a bear. You will be hard pressed to find many people who go out just to kill a bear without dogs in Cali. I grew up in Trinity county and hunted Trinity, Shasta, Humbolt and Mendecino counties for about 30 years were the majority of all bears are killed in Cali and very few bears are taken without dogs. DFG is going to be giving so many depredation tags over the next few years it wont even be funny. Oh, and a lot of those depredation tags will be filled by guys with hounds but the state will have to pay for it instead of making money off the tags. I saw the writing on the wall for Cali hunting many years ago and that is one of the major reason I got the heck out of there.

I know several, we've got to get proactive or we stand to loose it all. don't think it can only happen in Cal.. Oregon lost their hound season about 15 years ago never to see it return. carry on
Did your Pops do any bear hunting in Trinity county in Cali. My best friends dad guided with hounds there for well over 45 years and if you Pops did I bet he at has heard of him. His name is Dave Ruiz. Good luck on your bear hunt and were are you bear hunting at.

So California doesn't have bigger issues to tackle than how people hunt bears and cats?

45% of bear taken in 2010 were taken by houndsman.

I bear hunted last Aug in the Sierras and did not get a shot, the day after I left a guy took one in the same field from a tree with a bow.

The most idiotic aspect of the whole mess is that when California outlawed lion hunting with hounds the population increased to the point where the state now has to go in and PAY for trappers or wildlife officials to kill off X number of lions.

Same thing will happen with the bears. Now the state has taken money out of the economy, by not only nixing the out of state bear hunters but also the outfitters who ran hounds. And the irony is that this stupid bankrupt state will now have to hire folks to come kill off X number of bears - which will happen very soon.

                Sound logic right?

Thats what happens when you let the uninformed vote on something that they no nothing about. In a few years the bears will be like the mt lions and be over populated and in need of population reduction, but at the expense of the government.

He is from Weaverville/junction city. You could have met him anywhere though as all he does is hunt, fish and shoot trap. He killed a nice bull around trinity center just a few days ago. Click image for larger version
