What ever you decide just do the homework on it. We used the www.avsforum.com for a lot of research. We pulled the trigger on a Samsung HLT-6187 LED great picture, a ton of hookups for components, along with kickarse price in Sept. $1699. Had a few issues with infomus Halo issue but Samsung was very prompt on getting the issue resolved, we had a tech out to the house with in 3 days. What sold us on the LED version was the LED light engine they used, (NO COLOR WHEEL SPINNING) less noise, dang near silent, also start-up is about 3-4 sec with bright picture, no picture blur or "rainbow effect" (sometimes associated with color wheel). "LED will last the life of the TV. (120,000 hrs http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/inn...ht-engine.html) Samsung LED DLP TVs eliminate the need to replace the consumable lamps every few years, and thus have less impact on the environment and on one's wallet." But like always, there is something bigger and better "the day after." Had heard that they are working on a laser light engine that is going to be far superior to the LED technology in all aspects (brightness, longevity, contrast, etc....just cost more) OK I'm off my milk crate..... The problem with the Plasma and LCD screens is the ghosting or chasing picture in action scenes and especially sports. When I bought mine I looked at the exact same picture on the 3 different types of technologies and DLP had the best performance, there was no ghosting or chasing. Yes you will have to replace the lamp every few years but I still prefer the DLP.

The DLP bulb prices have dropped and will continue to drop due to the numbers in the market now. I checked for grins a couple months ago and can get a bulb for my samsung in the $170 range. If the LED had been out I would have gotten one for sure.

Stupid: What size TV are you looking for?

If you want something smaller than 50" get an LCD.

If you are wanting something bigger, like a 61" then go DLP.

Of course, now they have come out with a new technology that is supposed to blow away all of the above. Can't remember what it is called, but it apparently was at the Consumer Electronics Convention this year. I believe that a 19" goes for about $2,000 right now. Much like the plasmas, LCDs and DLPs, I'm sure the price will drop on that as well.
